Icon AAL problems

How did I miss this earlier? No worries I did the front co's twice and did the aal on my old tacoma plus everything else on it was DIY. I'm just saying for me paying $80 to have deaver do it while I'm watching the whole time and them seeing stuff I wouldn't have was money well spent (plus it was done on lunch time) Dont get me wrong I like working on my truck like everyone else, just sometimes it makes sense (wife and 2 kids take all my time). I realize now that in this thread I guess I had that coming, but just throwing it out there cause maybe others would pay $80 to not hassle with this heavy labor IMO? Then again I'm lucky to live close to Deaver who are experts in leaf springs.

 

I hear ya, I was just giving you a hard time. Having Deaver do it would make me feel a little better about paying for the job. There aren't many off road shops out my way and a lot of the smaller shops don't seem to want to mess with lifts. I actually got read the riot act when I got oversized tires installed, you'd think my truck is a ticking time bomb with all the 'potential hazards of plus sizing your tires'. After that, I just do everything myself if I can. I wish deaver was close enough to get a set of custom leaf springs. Shipping adds almost $100 to the price!

It's very simple.

I bet you have them on backwards. The front clip needs to be removed. I did my own a year or two ago and I just helped someone do theirs 2 weekends ago.

See above....the guys I was helping had put them on backwards (and they fit) and then I noticed and had them flip it around (after removing the front clip).

 

Thanks, I understand it does fell good to DIY but I just went there to inquire about it. The guy came out and I told him I just had the TSB done and I still bottom out!! He takes me in and there's leaf springs floor to ceiling all the way back. I was thinking of getting a custom pack but he says just try this 3pack and I bet you'll love them if not you buy a custom pack and I refund the cost and labor for these. I'll have them on your truck in an hour. How could I refuse?? I guess if I had them delivered to my door I wouldn't take them to some garage to install. Oh and they were the ones who said "absolutely take the overload out you dont need it unless you haul very heavy loads, it works way better without it". I have to try Real hard to get the bottom to hit now. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Cheers

 

You put the long side of the AAL toward the front?

Weird... Icon says install the long side toward the rear of the truck. I'm beginning to think there are more differences between the Icon AAL and the Deaver AAL afterall.
I've got to check mine out, I don't remember which way I installed mine. I know they're the same side to side but fack if I remember which way I installed them

 

I could of put mine in backwards Ill look into it when I get some time.

I looked around and couldn't find any info so I tried calling Dan at Wheelers, but they don't open for another 25 minutes.

I'll shoot him an e-mail with a link to this thread so this issue can be put to bed.


Edit: There used to be a thread dedicated to this leaf pack under "Wheelers" sub-forum, but it is no longer there.

 

From the Center Pin Hole, the Short side of the Leaf goes toward the Front of the vehicle, and the Long side of the Leaf goes toward the Rear of the vehicle.

Pretty late chiming in but you are correct Pugga 1st gen springs are center pin offset meaning the longer leaf goes to the rear, you'd think they'd taken stock spring clamp into consideration before production

Looks like mine are backwards as well as the ones we just put on a guys truck 2 weeks ago


Well they still work great and I haven't had any issues in almost 30k of driving.

 

You would think, or at least mention it in the instructions! I don't know about the Wheeler's kit, but the Icon AAL didn't come with instructions or any mention that a grinder would be required to install the AAL

Once it's installed though, it's a great set-up!

 

X2...even when installed backwards

 

Some people have intentionally turned the single AAL's around (run the backwards) in an attempt to reduce or eliminate axle wrap. I'm not sure if it works, but that was the theory behind it. I think Mr. 4x2 might have been involved in that science project (surprise surprise, right?).
