I have a 2010 Tacoma with 22,000 miles it will be 2 years in March. My battery is leaking fumes, that causing one of the terminals to get the white corrosion. You can see the trace of teh fumes coming from the negative side cover to the negative terminal.

I want to know if anyone know Toyota battery warranty policy. The battery is holding the charge fine and it's not causing any problems at all, other than the white corrosion that keeps coming efter cleaning the terminal.

I don't want to waste my time and take it to the dealer if a replacement won't be approved since the battery is charging and working "fine". I rather buy a new baterry.

Just got mine replaced. Toyota tested it and found it "bad". Warranty is 3 yrs or 36000 miles. They have to determine it is bad through testing to get the warranty.

Mine did the same thing. I dealt with it for almost 2 years and then it died in the cold. New DieHard is now keeping me going. In your case, give the dealer a try...Free is always nice.

For battery warranty, yes, 3/36 covers it. I had mine replaced 2.5 years into it, but mine was dead. I would suspect that they are not going to replace it though unless the case is cracked or a battery test comes out bad. A bit of build-up is normal, might want to post a pic to see it anyone thinks it's abnormal.

I had mine replaced after 2 years under warranty. It was out-gasing fumes and battery acid. The new one is starting to do the same. It may have something to do with 115 degree weather in the summer.

I stay on top of it with the felt terminal protectors and anti-acid spray.

Yeah! I ain't waiting for my battery to crap the bed. A company here in town has Optima red tops on for 175 CDN from a Christmas special. I am going to be heading there tomorrow and getting one. Screw the OEM battery lol.

Good question. I don't know the answer but I'd certainly try to get it taken care of at the dealer.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
When I worked at the dealership, we used the acid removing, color changing in acid, spray. We scrub off the corrosion with a wire brush, and rinse, dry with compressed air. Then we coat it with a red protectant spray. I don't recall the name, but it was marked as a battery terminal sealer/protectant.
The vehicles that came in with the red spray never had any corrosion on the terminals. I was sold on it, and use it.

I work at Lexus and we had the same problem with our cars. There was a defect in the battery causing excessive corrosion. There was a TSB on this. Replace battery, check/replace terminal. Some cars were so bad that the cable needed to be replaced also.

Called 3 dealers and then the Platinum Warranty line. Not covered past 3/36.
