door sills - they leak from underneath so put down a good coat of silicone then put them back.

I also pulled every rubber plug and put a good bead on them before putting them back in.

Also sealed every gap in the rear seat metal so water couldn't get in there.

The good thing about using 100% silicone is you can always remove the stuff you put it on because it remains fairly pliable.

I wonder how this would've played out if you drove straight through (not stopping.)

I was a foot and a half from the other side as you can see....let's just say I didn't stop by choice. When I asserted the truck wasn't going anywhere I killed the engine immediately.

bro, its no big deal. even the front diff should be fine the breather is up on the fire wall. its better to just take the started apart than to b uy a new one. all u have to do is make the contacts shiny again. ive had my whole truck this deep all the way around plenty of times. dry it out spray it with fabreeze and check the oil and youll be good.

Ok, it's out.....now what? Guess I'm just going to clean it up and throw some electrical contact grease on it and see if that helps. I've pulled it apart and it's quite wet inside there. I noticed two little breathers on the starter. I think I'm going to seal them up.

nooooo....dry it out before you seal anything up (and I wouldn't seal anything) otherwise youll trap moisture

you got an air compressor to spray it out with?

Don't seal those pull it apart use contact cleaner and a rag to clean it up. Apply dielectric grease too the connector outside the starter. Use the fsm and a multimeter to check it.

This may be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. The dielectric grease, do I apply that to the commutator assembly too or just the harness areas?

The commutator should be clean and dry, no dielectric grease. Use it sparingly where you do apply it.

I fixed it. I dismantled the starter and wasn't exactly sure what the problem was till I saw it. When I saw it I knew immediately what the problem was. I have an in depth understanding of how the starter motor works now. I fixed it like a boss and put it back in. Truck runs like it did the day I bought it....WINNING

    I'll explain in detail tomorrow.

It was an eventful night but I got everything situated. Learned a lot and even wrote a tutorial for the technical section about how to rebuild the starter motor if yours goes bad. Here's the full rundown (quoting from the how to tutorial I wrote located here.

No problem. Hopefully it helps someone out. Sounds like the starter going bad after water is a common issue so maybe this will save some off roaders $$$ ;)

I had to open up my headlights to get the water out. I'd planned on doing the BHLM a long time ago but never got around to it. Now that the headlights are out it was a good time to do it.

However, I like the look of the black housings but I feel it's very unoriginal because basically everyone does it. I decided to go the whole nine yards. It's coming out well. Pictures soon.
