so anyhow i just ordered a new used guage cluster for my 95 taco... the old one is mechanically broken... well its all jacked up...lol... the previous owner put the white face overlay on them and lost or broke, and failed to replace the plastic window.... and the internals for the odometer are broken as there has been broken plastic pieces falling out and the tripometer reset button is seized.... so ive been driving around with an aftermarket tachometer and only the fuel and heat guages working... so i thought a new guage cluster would fix this untill i was changing the oil the other day and examining the underside of the truck for leaks in the tranny and transfercase....... and here is what i found...

i have the plug but no male connector nor any wires that i can find... i pulled about 2 foot of the shrouding off of the wiring harness that is down there and i find no male connector or cut wires.... my question is.. are these wires supposed to be part of that wiring harness??? does anyone know where there speedo wires lead to???? any help would be appreciated...

Are you referring to the empty socket behind the connector?

yep... that would be if im not mistaken... the vehicle speed sensor...... hopefully i will have time tomorrow to take more of the shrouding off to see if i can find any cut wires... im guessing for some stupid reason the previous owner cut the male connector off... even if i can find the wires... i dont know where the hell to find a male connector to splice in.... my other thought was to just solder the wires onto the terminals inside the female plug... but i dont know which wires would go to which terminal... but im guessing there is supposed to be 3 wires...

this truck has been a pain in the ass from the day i got it.... its a great truck but i think the previous owner was a bit of a retard as everything on the truck was done half assed or incorrectly..... like the frickin upsidedown steering wheel... that pisses me off too.... or the birdsnest of wires that was under the dash that went to absolutley nothing... and the birdsnest of wires going through the fender and doorsill... or the front bumper that only had 2 bolts in it or the seats that had one or two bolts that were way too long... or the cab that wasnt bolted down... or the radiator that wasnt even meant for the truck... or the rear leafsprings that were way too long and gave the suspension no travel what so ever... or the blown out shocks or dropbracket lift with only one bolt in it... idk how the hell it was staying on there.... sorrrrry for the rant.... bad day.... gah... i need help!!!!

    Rant away brother.

Did he change trannys when he lift it? By the sounds of it, he may have cut like you said and pulled them back into the dash.

im not sure about the tranny thing... but i found a thread on ttora with a simialar situation... and from what i read im missing a small wiring harness that is about 2 feet long with plugs on each end... one of the connectors goes to the speed sensor itself and the other goes to a plug somewhere on top of the tranny... so i got to get under there and see if there is another plug on the tranny... if there is, i read that the wiring harness could be had from toyota... but if you guys can dig up anymore info or pics that would be great... we will figure this out...

anyhow back to the tranny thing... im not sure if they changed trannys or not... but the tranny is a shitty green color...lol...and the shifter stuff could stand to be replaced as it is very clunky and loose... i do believe however that the entire motor has been replaced... as there is yellow writing on the valve cover and intake manifold... and ive seen junk/salvage yards do this to mark or inventory their parts...
plus i had a kid tell me that he thinks that the truck has had the motor replaced atleast 3 times... i dont know how true.... but i do know that the motor is a fine piece of machinery... i seafoamed it the otherday and it didnt smoke... and i change the oil about a week ago and it is still hard to read the level on the dipstick because the oil is so clean... that and ive been driving the truck for about 3 months and havent lost a drop of oil... except when i changed it of course... from what i can tell this motor is in perfect or like new condition....

    Check these guys out.

    http://advanceadapters.com/index.php

They specialize in tranny swaps for all makes of vehicles. Maybe if you give them a call they could help you. Otherwise, this might be a dealer thing

this stuff is starting to piss me off.... im getting sick of this truck and everything that is screwed up on it....

i called toyota today, they had no frickin clue what i was talking about... go figure... nobody ever does.... they said i would have to come by and let someone look at it......
and not to mention that the toyota service manual or a haynes repair manual does not even mention the wiring harness or if they do they just say unhook it(when removing transfercase or tranny).... neither book has a diagram of it or the body harness that it plugs into.... i cant find a damn thing.... ive been researching for a week.... im fed up with the whole damn situation....

I haven't been able to find anything either. Just take the speed sensor in and see what they say. Or visit the local junkyard and see if there is anything here.
