If you are dead set on doing it I would tell them the safety issues would need to be fixed for the 12K price before you take it. Or it would be an easy law suit it the air bags did not work in an accident?

Me personally I would never buy a vehicle like this. My old work truck had a lot of abuse from me. I drove it like I stole it every day.

My last 3 vehicles have been new and I have been very happy with them.

Like harleyfx said, this guy is working you. If he is willing to take 12 from you, he would have just taken it from the first guy to offer 12.

I have to strongly disagree with argh here, it can be done. Pretty easily actually, you just have to be patient and know where to look. In December 2009 I bought my perfect condition 2006 DCSB TRD OR 4WD with 79k miles for $15k, original owner. At the time I got mine, there were 2 other identical packages comparably priced, and I have seen several others as well over the last 2 years.

OP, if you're willing to spend $15k, I would definitely not settle on this obviously neglected truck. You can do WAY better than this for $15k.

I only want an access cab and v6, thanks anyhow though.
I actually found a 06 tacoma access cab with 101k miles that looked very clean but it had 1 accident and had two owners for $13,500 (listed for $15k but haggled down to $13,500)). The problem I had was the guy didn't want to allow me to have an independent mechanic look at it, he said he already had the work done on it and that is wasn't necessary to have another mechanic look at it. I said forget it.

The truck in the first post looks pretty damn beat up, but that's a hell of a price.

If you can deal with the well-used interior, body imperfections, and never ending dirt in all nooks and crannies (look at the dash for example), I say go for it. Personally, I would have skipped right passed it after I saw the interior in that condition.

You had it inspected, etc. It seems like a solid truck.

Well this truck will only cost $12k , not $15k, and with possibly deducting the cost of the airbag fix and windshield I could get it down to $11,500. At $11,500 I could get this truck completely fixed up for $13,000. After I fix it up I could turn around and sell it for $16k and pocket a profit of $3k to add to my savings for another truck so I would have $18 k to spend on a better truck.

The toyota technician said the interior can be cleaned up, there is no visible damage, nothing a good shampoo won't fix.
Just look at he options that come with this truck...off-road TRD package, tow package, v6, 4x4, access cab. There is 2006 with the exact same specifications but a double cab(and had 1 accident) with 97k miles on ebay right now that is selling for $18,900. Here is the link:

My 2cents: If you want to off-road it, get a used one that is a one-owner vehicle in good shape and get the 6 cyl, not the 4. I also would not buy a 4x4 that has not been well taken care of unless it's REALLY cheap.

I would like to do a little bit of off-roading. That is one of the big reasons I'm hesitant to buying a new taco. If I buy a new one I'm going to want to baby it.
I don't believe this truck was ever used for off-roading and the truck never towed anything. However, the owner said the drive shaft was replaced. I'm sure the workers that drove this car treated it like a step child.

I understand this truck is only 12, not 15. What I'm saying is if you're willing to spend 15, you'll get a way better truck than this one for 12.

    The better coast
I agree because I use it ALL the time doing my craigslist sales. It is the easiest way to get close if not your asking price :D.

Say you found another tacoma for 11k and your going to hold off until you have "Seen that one" and see what he does, you can always re offer and he doesnt have the only tacoma on the market. I also use this when I'm buying stuff off of craigslist to lower the price of things. Just make it seem like you are actually talking to someone else.

Pass man. Thats a work truck. No one cares for it. Its like buying a Rental car. When you rent a car. Do you care how you treat it?

You can find something in the 14-15k range with lower miles and from someone who gave a dam about the truck.

If they're so confident in their maintenance records I would ask them to fix the low oil light and air bag light and you would reimburse him if the fixes truly are as cheap as they are claiming. They may think the oil light is just a sensor, but what if the oil is sludged or something like that causing the light to come on. In my opinion I would pass, doesn't sound like a good dealership is performing the recall or the inspection. During the gas pedal recall you also get your ecu reflashed and that's probably when the ecu got damaged. That should not happen if they're paying attention to what they are doing.

It's not the oil light, it's the low tire pressure light and the air bag light. I hear that the low tire pressure light is a common problem as well.
