any doctors here? or anyone who stands for long periods of time

so i am an ear harvester which requires me to stand for long periods of time. after a while of standing my back starts to hurt. what is the best fairly inexpensive shoe you all wear? im looking maybe around the 60-70 $ mark. im in desperate need of some nice shoes to wear. Those crocs dont help at all.

get some dr scholls gel inserts...then you can be gellin!

 

not sure what the real name of them is, but "nurse shoes". they're made for men too.

 

Dansko's. They look funny but they are super comfy. My friends an ER doc and he loves those things...pulls 12hr shifts too!

 

one of my first jobs was at foot locker..one of the most popular brand of shoes for people on their feet a lot were the "new balance" shoes...might want to go try some on? more of a sports shoe tho..

tried the inserts, they dont do anything for me. jsut breifly looking i did see the Danskos and Rockports. I also saw a brand called Shoes for Crews? anyone know of these? any good? they seem to have some inexpensive stuff which is why i was wondering.

Do you stand in the same spot primarily?

They're expensive - but well worth it and will save your back!!

If you are employed by a company (vs self employed), INSIST that your company buy some of these mats. Tell them its a safety/ergonomics complaint. We have them all over the place at our factory. They're an additional support to standing on solid concrete all day.

 

Yeah the floor mats work wonders here in our data center. You wouldn't think an inch of foam could help.

 

i am constantly on the road for this job. i am never at one spot the whole day. I do stand in one spot alot though. the mats would be great but since i have to haul a bunch of other stuff through the hopitals and funeral homes, it wouldnt be very practical. good idea though! might get one to work on the bikes at home!

 

im kinda liking the merrell jungle mocs. i have had a few pairs of those but was too long ago to remember. plus i was around 12 or so. they just seemed like another pair of shoes at the time. lol... looks like i will be taking a trip to the mall tomorrow. i heard that the Dansko you have to be carefull cuz you can roll your ankle or something like that if you are not careful.

I stand eight hours a day in a warehouse, I wear a Timberland Pro series steel toe athletic type shoe. Very light in weight and very comfortable. My work pays for them and the store they send us to they are over a hundred bucks. I have seen them on line for 75-100 bucks.

 

Gotcha! No really I guess it just caught me off guard, I have a friend who used to harvest eyes for some eye bank, never thought much of it I guess.

 

Haha! I also wear 5.11 boots and like them, matter-of-fact, I am wearing a pair right now.
