I'll be traveling from AR to CO this July with my family for a week and possibly meeting up with some friends of ours to do a little 4-wheeling. I figure I'll hit I-40 to Amarillo and then head up towards Pueblo, CO and end up near Silverthorne and possibly as far NW as Rifle.

Not positive that we will meet up with our friends so I have to consider that it would just be my vehicle. Sooooo, I'm looking for good suggestions on some mild 4-wheeling trails that could provide some entertainment for me and my family but not so desolate that if we had problems there wouldn't be help too far away. Make sense? I'm aware that traveling single-ship is not ideal in the back-country so I don't want to get into something I can't get out of somewhat easily.

BTW, these will most likely be just day-trips. The rest of the time will be spent hiking, camping, etc.

Configuration of my truck will/is 11' DCLB 4x4 sport with OME lift, LR UCA's, Silent Armor tires, Sliders with kick-outs and possibly a camper. I have a recovery strap, shackles, recovery points on my truck- no winch, or high-lift jack.

Any places I should consider/ shouldn't miss/ have to go to? I've heard about black-bear pass but not sure about the technical details and I know it's out of the way a bit. I did look at the sticky but would like your recommendations based on my situation.

    Thanks in advance.

Being from Colorado there is a ton to see here. You should start poking around the Colorado BS thread as we will start taking trips in spring. This might give you some ideas and also we might be able to do a run or 2 with you while you are here. In the meantime if you want to do some research on a killer database check out:

This will certainly get you started. Like said don't forget to look us up in the BS thread as I am sure we would like to do some wheeling with you.

    Great advice, as usual Eric.

Troll our thread, and hit us up when you're going to be close. We do lots of runs when it's nice out (even when it's not so nice out...) and as you noted it's always best to go with at least one other rig. This way you'll go with a lot of other rigs!!

TrailDamage is also the go-to site for trails in CO. Probably the most exhaustive list I've ever seen!
