Just Curious if any one has any suggestions for a balanced audio system WITHOUT having to replace the factory head unit. Somewhat interested in a subwoofer but not necessarily. I have a 2009 tacoma double cab. I think ive somewhat damaged my ears over the years from excessive music volume :( and ive noticed I cant get the factory stereo loud enough, especially with the windows down on the highway. Any suggestions? Anybody?

The factory radio sucks. Mine always had terrible volume. Even if you don't want to go nuts I'd still replace the HU. I replaced mine and added an 8" sub and called it a day.

I fit an 8 inch alpine behind the seats on my double cab, I had to remove the plastic panel but i Didnt have to take out any braket behind the seats, such as the child seat attachment points. Aswell I didnt have to remove the plastic behind the seats, I have heard some people had problems with vibrations and rattling. The sub is pretty good for the size aswell.

I should have taken pics of the install, but i wasnt sure if it would fit. I powered it with a rockford fostgate p3001. I have had dual 10 inch dual voice coil subs in my acura powered by the RF p3001 and I would say this sub is about 70 percent the punch that the dual 10s were.

    Good Luck!

Not mentioned is your budget. With enough cash I would recommend something like the following:

JL Audio Cleensweep: normalizes the signal from the head-unit
Replace front door speakers: too personal of a thing for me to make a brand recommendation
Subwoofer: been asked and answered a bunch of times on here
Amp(s): the new generation Class D amps are good enough to handle all audio frequencies and are both efficient with power and small in size, Alpine & JL Audio come to mind, but I'm sure there are many more.
