you say it happens only when it rains, or car wash? i had a problem with lots of water getting into my engine compartment and on top of the battery, it even waterlogged one of my hid ballasts, thats how i knew i had a problem, maybe ur hood is similar to mine, i put weather stripping down the sides and problem fixed

    That would be my guess.

If the belt has a very slight glaze and gets wet could be doing it?

I would lean more to a problem with the Alt.

I'm at the dealer for the second time. Light was solid when I turned the truck on this morning and it was raining. But when I was on my way down as I pushed the gas it was flicker and go more dim. When I got into the service bay and stopped it came on and was solid again. I hurried up and made sure they valet service bitch guy saw it so I could say someone else saw it and I'm not seeing things. We'll see what they do this time...

They tried to tell me everything checked out fine again. Wtf. I've had the truck 4 days it still has 20 day plates on it. I asked if they saw the light and they did. They must think its ok for the light to be coming on if the battery checks out fine. Stupid fucks!! So I told them I was not leaving with it and they gave me a loaner and said they'd call when they figure something out. So as I'm leaving, I see my fucking truck sitting in the back parking lot. Like they are just gonna let the fucker sit and then call me later and say nothing's changed. It's time for them to start throwing parts at it until the problem is fixed. Does the truck have to die on the side of the road in a snowstorm for them to fuckin fix it?

that really sucks, sounds like a big hassle, hope SOMEBODY there takes the time to try to figure it out, instead of letting it sit, at least u have a loaner so you're not putting miles on ur truck :)

haha thats true. its frustrating. i saw in the previous maint records that they replaced the positive battery terminal so i don't think its a problem that just happened i think its had it since november of 2011 when they got the truck. i do love it, and its really nice i just think for a truck i JUST bought it should be free of problems.

at least you're getting it taken care of now when they're still taking the tab on it, cause these are the types of problems where they can't figure out what's going wrong, and keep charging you labor to find.

yea thats true. i bought the bumper to bumper 100k mile warranty with it so its got quite a while before i have to pay for shit. its just irritating that something is wrong and because the fucking machine doesn't see it - it must not be there. i mean when they came out and said oh yea all checked fine, i said ok did they check the alt belt, check the grounds? and she just cut me off and said no. so they're not even looking for shit to be wrong.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
i'd have to go w/ the voltage regulator. after i killed my alternator w/ mud, i got a new one from auto zone. After that, lights would dim, etc and i could see the voltage jumping from the voltometer on my aftermarket headunit. it tested fine multiple times but would still do it. I'd have them replace the alternator.

Read this so you will know what to demand from them. If they say the battery is good then demand a new belt under warranty. If that does not do the trick the ask what will be the next most inexpensive THEY can warranty? If its under warranty be a pain in their a$$ until its fixed right.

what is the cause of the battery light coming on in my car
Why will the battery or charging light still come on even when the battery checks good and the alternator does too?

The battery light comes on when there is a problem in the battery charging system.

Assuming that when you say the battery light comes on, you do mean that it comes on and stays on while the car is running. I only say this because most, if not all cars flash the battery light when you start the car. But then the light goes out once the car is running, and that is normal. If there is is a problem, the light would remain on, indicating such problem.

Although your car may be starting and running now, it may not be in the near future. You need to check out a few things to get to the bottom of it so you can fix the problem before it REALLY becomes a problem.

The vehicles I've owned seem to time their mechanical failures and breakdowns at the absolute worst time possible. It's like they have some sort of warped sense of humor and get a kick out of watching me squirm.

The battery light in your dashboard comes on when there is a problem in the battery's charging system. The alternator is what makes that light come on.

I would make sure your fan belt is still on your vehicle. If it's not there, your alternator isn't charging your battery at all.

If the belt is there, it could be slipping which would cause the alternator to not be charging properly. If you check the alternator with a digital voltage meter with the car running, it must read 13.6 volts or higher (up to 14.2 volts) for the alternator to be charging properly.

If the voltage meter says anything under 13.6 volts, say 13 volts, then there is still a problem even though it is still charging,it's not charging properly.

sound EXACTLY what my truck was doing. light would come on randomly and stay on. i had it checked out at least a dozen times at various places, all checked out fine. i drove it like that for months. finally i pulled the alternator and had someone bench test it. it came up a hair low on the amps, so i put a new one in. fine ever since, mine had about 70K on it i believe when i had to replace it.

I would look at your belt it seems like when you get it wet is when you have the problem if it's at all slack getting it wet is going to make it slip.

same exact thing happened to me, tighten the cable going to the alternator, mine came loose and caused the light to flicker, and also make sure the clip on plug on the alternator is nice and tight too

So I got my truck back today. After two days they couldn't duplicate it. I guess I'll just wait for it to die and say told you so. Do any of you think the electrical outlet in the bed could be getting wet and causing it??

Put the garden hose to it and see what happens (the belt that is) or get the dealer to.
