    to come!
So I was driving my new Tacoma today (2k miles on it) on the highway. Check engine light and trac off light illuminated. Then the temperature reading went out completely (under cold) and the car began to make a wierd noise coming from the engine bay. Went to pull off the freeway, car shut off... allowed it to roll into a nearby parkIng lot and parked the truck. Then red fluid began draining from it.... Possibly radiator not sure didn't check as I had to leave and had the car towed to the dealer! Any thoughts on what it was?? And the engine smelled horrible. Could it be damaged?? Going to the dealer tomorrow will update . Anyone have an idea wtf happened to my truck??

It'd be goin' right back to the dealer, and they'd better be picking up the bill for the tow as well.

Bad one of the batch? Sounds like the transmission to me.

"Nice" and "Rental Car" do not go together in the same sentence.

If it is major repairs, get a new truck via the lemon law.

Probably the tranny hose going to the cooler. Truck shut off when level was too low. They'll probably replace the hose and refill it.

Have fun getting a new truck...it won't happen. It's amazing how people automatically assume that a new truck is better than a used one sometimes...usually a used one has all the bugs worked out of it...new vehicles are notorious for having issues. Get it fixed...enjoy the truck, nuff said. Now if you have the same issue a second time or a motor/tranny fails...then you can enact this "Lemon Law"...otherwise it's a one time thing...and its a toyota.

I just bought a brand new truck and you can bet your a55 I checked everything over top to bottom several times to make sure there was no leaks, all connections tight, lug nuts, levels, alignments, etc... it's your responsibility to take care of your truck...not the dealer.

Yes it does suck that it broke down, sh!t happens to everyone...but guess what it will be fixed...it will work again...you will be happy. Just remember nobody is perfect and the people who built your truck definitely weren't...just look at the oem paint that comes on every toyota vehicle lol.

I would highly doubt that it was transmission fluid. Only reason I say this is because if you lost a lot of fluid I would think you'd feel some bucking or some grinding from the gearbox.

You said your temp gauge was under cold? Had you just started up the car and began driving? If not, I'm guessing you lost all your coolant and the temperature sensor wasn't getting any coolant running through it so it read cold even though your engine was scorching hot. To be honest I'm not even sure how the temp sensor gets it's reading so that could be totally wrong but my best guess is that you lost a hose and all of your coolant with it.

Did you even feel the fluid to see if it was glycol based or oil based? How much fluid? Let's be honest here...do you even know how to change an oil filter? If not then I can understand but really...educate yourself on the SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE PURCHASE YOU WILL EVER MAKE IN YOUR LIFE.

I would guess coolant if your temperature gauge dropped...
