Wow! Couple days away from TW and I miss out on a lot. I haven't done anything yet because I'm still waiting on my coils. Let me get this straight, if I install the wheelers aal backwards I DO NOT have to cut factory c clamps and I get a better ride? Or did I just get lost in all the trash talk?

Lost in the trash talk. :D

I installed mine backwards and had to cut the front clips. I have no idea if they are installed as planned, if any clips need to be cut. Hopefully someone will chime in and tell you.

I think you got lost in the flaming/trashtalk in the middle of the thread. I wish the moderators would discourage this kind of garbage, instead of participating. It ruins a perfectly good thread meant to educate us all.

The gist is that (for Wheelers and Deavers AAL anyway) is to be sure to install the AAL pack that is meant for your particular vehicle. Install it correctly and the stock clamps will not get in the way (no need to cut). This has been stated by different posters several times.

If the stock clamps are interfering with the AAL pack, then either you have the wrong pack, or are installing it incorrectly. ( Another possibility is that the pack on the truck may not be the original stock pack ).

ICON AAL packs are a whole different story, apparently.

If you want to "educate" yourself do it on TTORA, Pirate, Expedition Portal, Ih8mud, Tor, etc.

This is not a education based forum - It's a social based forum.

Also you might not want to talk trash on the mod who has done more technical write ups then anyone and who will help anyone at the drop of a hat.

Do you have the numbers you got from the TSB leaf pack, icon 1.5" 3-leaf pack, and the overload? Hub center to bottom of fender?

Looking @ doing exactly what you did and want the numbers. I currently have an oem non tsb pack with the icon 3-leaf without the overload. I have a 2.5" spacer lift on the front and am just a little lower in the rear (1/2" maybe). I am going to put 5100's set at 0 w/885 coils in the front and will more than likely be 1/2" higher in front than I am now (3"s). Sooooo I am looking @ picking up a new TSB pack from a TW member and putting my icon 3-leaf on it but wondering if I should put the overload on as well or not run the overload?!!! I have a tonneau cover so alway have the extra weight over the bed. Did you have to replace the pins that were in the icon pack? How about brake lines...did you need to get extended ones or is there enough slack?! Stoked to find this thread and see that you have done this!! Please give me some numbers Pugga and some pics of the truck!! Thanks for the help!!:D

Answers in red. I'll post back tonight with the measurements. My front ones will be irrelevant, I'm only running Eibach coils so it's a short lift.

Here's the only decent side shot I have pre-lift.

Heres an ok pic of my flex with 3" and 3" extended travel shocks. i can get a bit more but if you tweak the bracket you can get about an inch of play out of the stock lines which equals about 2" of suspension travel.

My measurement from center of hub to the fender is 24". Up front I'm at 21" and a hair higher on the passenger side.

Quick update guys, I finally got everything installed over the weekend and NO cutting of any kind was needed. I got about an inch of clearance from the back clamp, and around 3" on the front. I went w/ the 884 coils up front and 5100's all around. BTW I used the wheeler pack.

For the peeps running the ICON AAL..how is it holding up..does it rust easily..and does it or has it become squeeky, either out of the box or within time?

Genrec - The ICON Progressive AAL system has a durable coating and should not give you any issue with rusting for a fair amount of time. However over an extended period of time or when exposed to harsh weather elements you may find deterioration of the finish. In this case you can use a semi-flat spray paint to keep bare material from being exposed which will reduce / eliminate and rust issue. From an internal company stand point and the feed back we often receive from our customers, we are not having any known issues to date.

Also here is a copy of the current instructions so you can understand what is involved as far as installation. This will eliminate question as well from the original post. IF you have any other questions feel free to ask, you can also PM or Call 951-689-ICON at anytime for a quick response.

"Holding up" depends on the loads you put on it and how often you off road. Without knowing your primary uses having others comment won't mean much for you.

Personally my 3 leaf progressive AAL has held up good for over a year with wheeling every weekend and a aftermarket steel rear bumper with tire gate. I also have my overload leaf removed. I do not expect it to last 2 years.

Most leafs rust easily when you use them in a salty region or take them offroad for mud baths. Rust is a non-issue IMO as no one really cares if your leafs are rusty and it has little to do with their lifespan or function. This is strictly aesthetic question IMO.

Squeaky leafs are attributed to 2 major factors:

    1) Sand/mud getting between the leaves (can not be stopped)
    2) Friction pads between the leafs holding up to the punishment

My friction pads are fine, but my leafs squeak like crazy due to mud and sand.

All you need to do to quiet them down is spray some WD-40 on them.

I've had mine on for about a year and a half and they're rusty as all hell

The stock leafs that were installed at the same time still look fine. There is a HUGE difference between the minor surface rust spots on the stock leafs and the completely rusted red AAL. Not trying to be a dick but if you are an Icon Representative, some constructive critizism would be to beef up the coating. I will have to take them off and repaint them.

Functionality-wise, the AAL is a great product. They haven't sagged enough to say so in the time they've been on the truck and I've used them to tow and haul quite a bit. I'm also fairly heavy, to me, empty still means I've got an ARE shell, a built up plywood platform and tools in the bed equalling about 300 lbs at least in total. With a really heavy load, I'll just barely kiss the overload leaf. I did that once when I had an additional 1,000 lbs in the bed along with my normal load. They performed very well off road offering lots of flex (I still had all the weight in the bed while off roading also). My only complaint so far would be the rust but that would not stop me from purchasing them again. Next time, I'd coat them with something more durable before they were put on the truck. Also, I'm a year and a half in and my leafs are nice and quiet :)

I'm running wheeler AALs on my 2nd Gen, you don't need to cut the pack clamps.
