noticed on my 2012 that u cant turn the knob to the a/c postion and let it just be vent air, it automatically turns on the a/c compressor, i liked how on my 08 that i could run the cool vent air, but it wont do it on the 12'....wonder why or if theres a bypass??

You have to position the knob at 90% turn from the last click position.(cold side) That way you can run your cold air without AC going on.

The temp adjust knob. If you turn it to the coldest setting the A/C will turn on. If you turn it all the way and the A/C kicks on, just back it up 1 click and hit the A/c button and it will turn off

^ This. Sort of a pain in the ass too, every time i want heat I turn it all the way to the hot side, and just the same with cold. Now I have to stop my hands from doing what they are used to

ha, nice to hear i'm not the only one... yeah, it's annoying when you want to vent it but if you turn it all the way the AC kicks in. then turning it back a click and you gotta then hit the button also if you want to turn it off. crazy annoying. i'd rather turn the temp knob all the way, and THEN push the AC button if i want AC on. seems backward the way they've got it set up. darn oil lobbyists, is my guess.

I hate it. I am too used to my 06 so I am always turning the stupid a/c on.

There's no longer a button you can turn off? I just hit the button if it goes on when I don't want it to.

I wonder if you could clip a wire on the temp switch that turns the compressor on and recirculate air. That switch should be like the 4X4 switch where you have to push it in a little to go into 4 Low.Push in and turn left for max air.It was probabally designed for those who do not undrestand how to use the recirculate button for max air.

Maybe it is both of us.Let me try again. The OP would like it like the pre 09 tacomas. When you rotate to the left all the way it is switching the AC on and he don't want it on.Their has to be a electric wire on that switch to tell the AC to come on.Maybe if you unplug the wire or cut it it will no longer turn the Ac on and you will have to do it the old way pushing the button. Not that I would do that but the techies on this forum could.I think Toyota could make the switch so you turn it all the way to the left you have max cool but no AC running. If you want max AC push in and turn a little more left for max ac.That way they are not turning on the AC when they do not want it.I think the way it is now is for those who can not figure out how to get max AC so it is now simple for them.I hope this don't sound more retared to you than before but I am not very tech minded. It should have a max AC selection with a heavy detent to get to that selection.

That makes more sense. I am getting what you are saying.

I hate it when they try to make something better that is already perfect.
