OME 885 with Plate Bumper

I am getting ready to order this week the suspension for my 12 tacoma. I ordered a plate bumper from relentless fabrication and should be here in about 4 months. I am going to be running a smittybuilt xrc-8 winch on there. I have read quite a bit on how rough the ride is with the 886's and i am thinking about going with the 885's instead. my tire size is 265/75/16 and i do not plan on going any bigger with these. has anyone run 885s with a plate bumper and winch and if so how was the ride? Did the front end sag with the added weight?

 

not for sure but have heard if you are going to get a aftermarket bumper and winch go with the 886. If no then the 885

 

886's are great, i run em with my ARB and i love them, you're gonna need them too for that relentless bumper

 

alright i just wanted to find out i guess if anyone has run the 885's with any luck. Have been hearing that even with the plate bumper the 886's are a rough ride.

I got TJM's made to support ARB bumper. Its in my build thread, a little cheaper to cause not a *name brand*.

 

your truck looks like it sets nice and level...what are you running in the rear. I am torn there whether i should go with the dakar leaf pack or an AAL and what size AAL to go if i do

 

I ran 885's with no winch. With a winch, you'll want the 886's for sure.

 

Hey eric, just looking to get the suspension knocked out before the bumper shows. With the 886's what would you suggest running in the rear to make the truck sit level.

 

1.5" AAL or 2" if you want a little rear rake

OME90000 Nitrocharger sport front shock set

REAR

OME N182 Nitrocharger Rear Shock Set
Wheelers 1.5-2" AAL Kit (Not sure which one i will go with yet)
OME U-bolt set

IS there anything else that is neccessary to get this done? Should i throw a new bushing set in my order? What about a driveline drop kit?

 

Might want to add in a rear driveshaft carrier drop kit too. It'll help with the take-off shudder thats common with lifting

 

I will do that. The part is only 12 bucks. I am contemplating just ordering the whole kit that comes with the Dakar leaf pack. I don't know if that will be enough lift in the rear with the 886's. I don't want the front end higher than the rear. honestly would rather have a little rake in the rear.

 

I know you're already getting the 886s, but just to throw some more experience with those who have that set up. With that weight up front, if you hit larger bumps on and off road, you're going to want beefier springs to take the hit versus your bump stops.

I've run the 886s, with the ARB and with the ARB/Winch. Harsh is not the word I'd use to describe it. More like Solid. And when you take larger obstacles it's cushy.

 

The dakars give about 2.75" lift in the rear, more than enough. It will give you a similar rake to a stock truck, just with the higher lifted stance. The dakars ride pretty rough though, they're designed as an all around pack for hauling loads often without sagging, so unloaded over speed bumps is pretty harsh
How much do you tow/haul?

 

I honestly don't tow a ton and when i do it is either a 2 place snowmobile trailer or a jumping jack with 2 four wheelers on it. So do you think that i would be better off just getting an AAL? I am looking for a comfortable ride too.

my truck sits high in the front as i only have 2" blocks in the rear with OME N182 shocks, I'm going to switch out the blocks eventually, but right now I'm looking at 1" blocks with 2" aal to restore the factory "rake"

 

The wheeler's 3 leaf mini pack AAL kit would probably be good for your uses and have a better ride than single leaf AAL would.

 

i wouldn't say you're paying for the name of OME when you buy their components, not that I'm dissing TJM, I'm just saying i think the level of quality of OME is priced very competitively considering the quality of ARB's suspension
