You can see my adapters here. Not the prettiest thing, but they work. Only $3 from a dude on eBay.

Funny that you guys are bitching about deans. I just did 10 of them as well. On some Gens Ace too! Hard to heat up the gens ace wires enough to really get them soaked into the pool on the plug and have a good connection, then add into the fact that you need to make some space there with out shorting anything. As if Lipo's weren't scary enough.

fyi: solder to the outside of the tab...no more risk of short.

i saw those gens ace wires and went straight to the outside.

    i have the red one.
lightened it up, put a bigger battery in it, and better tail rotor and it is much faster.

remove the tail supports then move the skid slightly forward to rebalance.

i also did a mod the the controller so that it is not sprung to shut off if you let go. i can hover without my hand on the stick

I was going to go the adapter route, but my ESCs both came with Tamiya connectors, so I'd really like to at least get those swapped out.

I was definitely worried about shorting them out...the videos of the LiPo explosions I've seen on YouTube started playing in my head.

I was going to do that, but I read on a forum that most of the guys were recommending not to do that. They said it won't have as good of a connection as it will if you solder it on the inside. I think I may do the next pair on the outside and see if that makes it any easier.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Hey, I read it on the Internet...it had to be true! :p

I'll likely give it a go with my other battery tonight and see if this helps at all.

What kind of soldering irons are you guys using? I have an 80W Weller with a 1/4" chisel tip.

Thats a cool little coaxial heli. Are there parts available for it? I've got a Eflite MCX, but was thinking of getting my nephew something, and this seems perfect.

I probably just need to grind down the tip on this one - it was at least twice the size of the terminals on the Deans connectors which didn't help at all.

My thing with deans is that they can be a bitch to connect and disconnect. And if you aren't super careful it's easy to mess up your (well, mine anyways) solder.

Yeah, I know what you mean about connecting and disconnecting them, thats why I always hated them. I still run LightSpeed/Power Pole type connectors on my surface models. But, since I've started flying, (well, attempting to) all those guys have shown me the way. The reason, or at least in my case, seemed to be that I would/was putting too much heat on the Deans plugs when making them up, heating up the plastic part, allowing the metal tabs to shift inside them, and then they would not be lined up thus making them a pain in the ass to plug/unplug. If they are made up correct, they slide together very smooth.

Here is my weekend aquisition, a Eflite MSR, single rotor fixed pitch, with tail rotor. It's a mini version of my Eflite SR120 (which is too big to fly indoors). This little guy is a blast inside, and gives me some stick time when it's too windy for the SR.

Oh, I'm sure the ones I did will end up getting fubar'd.

Spoke to the LHS - they said to just bring the two trucks and batteries in and they will do them for a few bucks each. A buddy of mine went to them and he said they do good work (and he seems to be as picky as I am).

We'll see how they do. I'm hoping to run up there tomorrow afternoon.

I'm pretty sure the MSR has been dropped from the line up, replaced by a flybarless MSR-X. There are still some out there, (mines used from a friend) but parts my start drying up, who knows? Size wise it's the same as my MCX, but way more challenging to fly, with the single rotor and tail rotor. There are no hands off hovers. It reacts a little different and can get away from you, quick. Its fast (coming from a coaxial) and it always needs some type of input, but that's why it's fun.

That would be a 4.0mm Bullet to Traxxas adapter.

Just be sure they get the gender of the connectors right (tell them it's from the battery to ESC).
