Towing TSB Question

So I've heard (read) a lot of talk (text) about people getting the AAL TSB for the rear suspension. I contacted my local dealership and asked about getting it done. The lady on the phone said that her most senior tech had to look at a couple of things to see if I qualify, and said that poor ride quality while towing is ultimately dependent on what you tow. This seems like a pretty obvious statement, but I want to make sure I say the right thing when I take my truck in tomorrow. I figure they are probably going to ask what I tow. I figure I will tell them that I first noticed it while towing a boat, and again towing a uhaul trailer when we last moved. Should this cover my basis, or is there something else I should mention?

I did search, but there is so much info that it can be overwhelming...

 

Some key words are "harsh ride". I didn't even mention that to the dealer and got mine done. All I told tem was I bottomed out with 4 adults in the cab and nothing in the bed and they ordered the parts. Some dealerships will be harder to get TSB work done though. If you're really concerned just print out a copy of the TSB and "nicely" wave it in their face.

 

I told them I was experiencing a 'Harsh ride while loaded with wood and when hauling my 3700# trailer" I even made sure there was some dirt and a bunch of bark and sawdust in the bed. I also showed them the TSB because the service writer had no idea. Good luck. It made towing much more controllable but the trade off is a slightly stiffer ride when not loaded and it raised the rear 1". Now it rides like a truck as far as I'm concerned. If one dealer says no try another one.

 

Just Got mine done today...Lipton Toyota was awesome...just called and stopped in....had my parts in two days installed in 2 hours....I have a double cab 2wd and got right at about an inch lift in the rear...havent noticed any ride difference.

 

i would get the TSB which is FREE and also get some AirBags. thats what i did

 

I didn't have the give any explanation at all! The lady i spoke with made it sound like i was going to have to explain myself and have someone analyze what I was saying to see if it was legit or not. The guy I spoke with when I got there just said "No problem, we'll get it in there and take a look at it."

Voila! Parts are ordered and should be in soon!

 

For what its worth, current measurements are as follows:
34.5" FR
34.75" FL
36" RR
36.5 RL

 

I had it done a couple weeks back (2 or 3 weeks ago). I simply explained that the back end sags under load with my shell on and about 400 - 500 lbs in the bed. I also had a copy of the TSB with me. They said no problem but they have to take it around back and look the suspension over. They drove the truck around to the back, checked everything over, then drove it back out front and told me the parts were on order including a new front strut since mine was leaking some oil.

 

So they finally got all the parts in, and i had them installed earlier this week. The rear measurements didn't really change at all. I would estimate about 3/8" at best. Based on the measurements prior to the TSB the difference is less than half an inch. And it only took them 2+ months to get the parts....
