so I understand the point the pilots are making but to sort of play devil's advocate, what the hell would you be charged with? I mean IF the plane crashes because your being a dick with your laser pointer charge them with murder (2?) but mostly just wondering what is the jail able offense called and 2.5 years for a laser pointer? IMO should be more like 1000 hours of community service or something like that, but Im not a pilot (yet) after all.

Hazarding an aircraft in flight...it's serious shit.

Edit: And if you're questioning the seriousness of the charge, think of this: you have a multi-ton aircraft flying at several hundred miles an hour, full of people, and some dipshit blinds the flight crew with a laser...risking everyone on board AND on the ground in it's possible crash zone. While I was stationed in Whidbey Island, we had an officer that went out on TAD to the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) to fly as an observer on helos for a few weeks; we got him back three weeks later, and he was medically DQ'd from flight status due to some shitbird flashing the helo with a laser. Got the pilot too, but missed the H2P (Co-pilot), so he was able to fly them back to base and land.

pilots should be able to shine lasers back at the perps. that would really freak them out. or it just might initiate a mini light saber battle. haha

Imagine commercial aircraft armed with small laser pointer seeking missiles. It wouldn't take long before people stopped messing wit teh planes, would it?:D

    Love the video!

It's a felony, so you get some time w/the big boys.

Think about it - a laser is light, so the beam spreads at a distance, but much further away. By the time it gets to a plane, it's illuminating the entire window.

its dumb as hell and pointless so shoot a laser pointer at an aircraft, but 2-5 years and a FELONY seems pretty extreme.
