If you've never done a mud run before, the Rugged Maniac is a blast and gets you used to being filthy. It's only a 5k and held in the summer so it's downright pleasant relatively speaking. It covers some of the same areas as TM so it's good practice in addition to being stupid fun. :D

My buddy had a crew and they were going to do the one in Feb. in Socal, but he got a gf and stopped training. If anyone from here is doing it, we should at least go down and cheer them on. I sure as hell can't make it.

Matt, wth does your coworker do for a living, that's nuts.

A group of us are getting a team together for the July Tough Mudder at Mount Snow, VT :D

Any training tips from you veterans? I'm in OK shape now, I play soccer on the weekends and am decent with distance running. I know I need to work on stamina, any other hints or tips would be helpful!

Pull-ups. Lots of pull-ups, preferably on a bar that rotates so it builds your grip.

jog jog and more jogging. To me it was more about the overall wear and tear. Not so much how strong you are. I workout, lift weights so the obstacles werent bad.....but they sure did accumulate throughout the day. For this next one, I need to do more running.

I did the warrior dash outside of St. Louis...that was a great time. I am thinking about doing the tough mudder but need to get back into shape first! The warrior dash wasn't bad at all though!

Please don't think I'm trying to offend you or anyone else that has done a "warrior dash", but I love running good races and the WD has NEVER being part of my repertoire. $50+ for a 5K with all kinds of fake obstacles is just not my cup of tea.

I was doing a group trail run yesterday morning and WD came into the conversation. I said that "I can make my own donations to disable vets, and not support a pseudo not for profit that offers a Disney version of a tough experience".

Tough Mudder, now that's a race that I'm dying to do!

you don't have to be a PT stud to complete the course. you set your own pace and intensity level. as long as your are in semi-decent shape and start the event with a positive attitude, have fun, use teamwork you'll do just fine.

having said that, the more in shape you are, the more tollerable the course will be...lol. cardio endurace is key, as well as having some good upper body and core strength to navigate the obsticle's with success.

run a lot, and do body weight excercises (push up, pull up, dip, flutter kick, squat) and you'll be good. chugging a few beers before the start helps too :D

most importantly... have fun and don't quit!
