did I short my off road lights out?

I washed my truck and now one set of my offroad lights don't work...I turned them on and they flashed a couple times and now they wont turn on. I have 4 HIDs, 2 switches, and 2 lights on each switch.

Both go through a relay to a circuit breaker and the switch. What the heck did I do? I am no electrical genius

edit:: oh and the other lights on the other switch work fine

 

sounds more like you may have loosened a ground to me

 

if the light flickered then shut off sounds like the ballast is fried

 

check for frayed wires, i remember out in Barstow krish's lights weren't working because a bare wire contacted metal and blew the fuse.

 

hmm well I guess it can be many things...my last thread I made about my lights going out a bunch of people said it was bad ballasts for sure...turns out it was a bad relay...I'll have to look at it when im home..these lights have been such a pain in the ass

 

when the relay was bad, was there a problem with only one lights again? or all lights going to the relay?

 

technically you dont need relay's as long as you remember to shut off your offroad lights.

 

the previous issue was one set of lights on the same relay/switch kept turning off and I thought it was after a certain amount of time, but the case ended up being a bad relay because if I didnt move the truck, theyd stay on. If I flicked the relay, they'd go off. I bought a new relay for 7 bucks and they worked my entire last desert trip...so now I dont know what the issue is going to be. I can switch the relays and see if they come on with the working relay. That'll eliminate one possibilty

 

eliminate the relay all together and see if it works, if not, its not the relay

 

Process of elimination: circuit breaker, fuses, grounds, relays, switches, ballasts. Also how are they wired? You'd be surprised how many people dont know how to wire relays properly.

Btw relays arent necessary when its low current. I would never wire up that many lights without a relay getting 12v direct from the battery using switch for ignition purpose only.

 

So I flipped em on this morning and they work again...which part along the way had water in it making it not work. It can't be the light itself. It has to be my awesome wiring job. What if the circuit breaker is wet? It seems like if the relay had water in it, that could stop it from working. All my solder points are wrapped in shrink tube so I doubt thats it

 

water + electricity = bad. so they work now? problem solved right?

 

so....seal the relays? the circuit breakers? both? haha thats what I was getting at

Give liquid electrical tape a shot on your connections if water is an issue (just make sure its waterproof!)
