Commanderwiggin, Believe it or not, Not many folks know everything about their vehicle, or how to identify an issue. They buy a new vehicle, and expect it to be trouble free, let alone strand them on the side of the road. If you have nothing helpfull to post, then GTFO. If you find you might be able to help, then knock off the bullshit attitude, and help.

    Too few to list.
Just out of curiousity, what dealership? Cabe?

I don't buy the rock in the radiator story from the dealership.

Also just in case you need it, below is a link for Toyota Corporate e-mail. They seem to respond within a day.

Wow this is an interesting thread. I've been following it and at first I sided with the OP. But if he came here for help, why does he keep saying he's too busy to do what everyone is suggesting?

Basically you have 2 options, let dealership do all the work and you pay for it or you go down there and take the time to make sure the dealership is not screwing you as everyone is suggesting.

Why ask for advice if your response is I'm too busy to do that?

I'm saying that a leak can happen at anytime. When you travel a long distance do you stop every hour and check your fluids? No most people stop when they need fuel, food or a break from driving. In the distance it takes to empty out the avg. fuel tank a small leak can easily cause a issue. Having a low coolant sensor is no different from a CEL. It helps detect an issue before it could cause catastrophic damage.

This is a great point. I would ask the dealer to put in the work order that the engine was tested and no damage found. I would hate to see you have the engine blow up at 60k because of this. Since you are already paying your deductible you want to push to have everything repaired that might have been damaged. I know you are young, but don't let these places push you around. Believe me, you may have to insist, even get nasty sometimes, to have things done fairly when insurance companies are involved.

trust me i have been using all of this information that you guys are giving me when speaking to my insurance, toyota customer care HQ, and the dealership. and i will make sure that i give them a call right now to make sure that other warranties are not voided by this incident meaning if my motor goes out it will be under warranty...

i really appreciate all of the help from this forum seriously and i have read of things like this numerous times on here and never thought it would be me this was happening to!

The aluminum radiator is not at all protected by the factory skid plate...last night i was looking under my truck just cause I have nothing better to do in my life :/ checking for leaks or anything abonormal and noticed the aluminum radiator bent on the bottom, something must of hit it from the road...but lucily now i have the Toyota aluminum skid plate over the steel one which covers all the way to the bumper....anything can happen i guess is my point. BTW i havent read the last 3 pages :)

They are replacing the thermostat, because apparently that failed to notify me that my truck was overheating

this is EXACTLY how i would handle it. i wouldnt even crack the hood or dip a finger into the puddle. fuck it. dealer come and get it..and here is the receipt for the taxi ride..

and i can change my oil!

i had a chevy S10..brand new. i took it to pick up a motorcycle. on the way home, the motor blew. i knew i spun a bearing. i lost pressure and the motor just ticked loudly..power was gone. i limped it to a chevy dealer, stuffed the key into a night drop envelope, and dropped it into the box with a note.."you figure it out". i rolled the bike down and went home. i thought about pulling the dipstick, but figured i couldnt do anything anyways. they called me the next morning and said, "you have a new crate motor on the way".

Now that sounds a bit fishy on their part. The thermostat's job isn't to notify, it blocks the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has had a chance to warm up. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question248.htm

Yea well they are replacing the thermostat, the radiator, and changing the oil.. Then comes the engine testing.. If it is damaged, I'll be telling them I don't want a repaired engine, I want a new one
