    Start volunteering at a hospital or get in with a volunteer fire department when you get out of your academy. itll help get experience and make more connections as well.

    Thanks fellas, I'll bookmark all of this! Whats people opinion on getting on at a paid department then trying to transfer after a couple years just to get the experinece etc. I've heard good and bad

    No man I took my EMT there but I am doing the Fire Academy at EOC, in Choctaw OK. That name sounds very familiar though

    I'm torn on this matter if you decide to do that....

    It's your choice to tell the department but would they hire someone who is looking to leave in a few years?

    ^^^ I agree with this.. departments wont want to hire short term guys. that is why i say volunteer or get on a reserve department for experience. or even seasonal work..

    And he is going through the program that gets a BS at Oklahoma state in fire technology. Lives out there and is an EMT but not sure what company he works for. Drives a 1st gen silver taco.

    Hot on the trail still for finding a job after fire academy! Just took a couple of written exams at some departments and just waiting to hear back. I can't wait to get on somewhere and get this career started.

    do it in turnouts...and then run it again. if you can find a tractor tire, flip it, find an old tire off an engine co and drag it. my department is reopening apps in june. riversideca.gov im not sure if any of those certs your getting will translate over in ca. alot of the time, the state fire marshall says no. give it a shot though

    Thanks bud, and yeah I have been flipping tractor tires etc. The academy I am in does a very extensive PT every day. I just did a physical test down in Texas and was the 5th best time out of 100 guys. I have 4 interviews set up as of now in the next month. Looking good, thanks for the help
