Right on brother, if I'm ever in Cali they're on me.

Anyone who thinks the AF doesn't get into the shit, watch this video. That's an AF JTAC on the ground that I know personally. Coordinating and calling close air support at DANGER CLOSE distances. All while being SHOT AT. Think you have what it takes to do all that? Think you can talk that pilot on to your position and the position of the enemy while running and getting shot at? Where one mistake means you and your buddies are dead. It's a lot harder than you think and anything but a joke. I think you might want to rethink your ideals about the AF. When your ass is on the line, they are your best friend.

I always laughed at that word.

    Interesting mentalities in the AF:

Maint: We're the most important, everyone else is Nonners
Munitions: We actually win the wars
Medical: We decide whether or not you die from anthrax
Comms: We are the most important. Try going without internet.
Finance: We hate our lives. Piss us off, and we'll give you enough money to barely afford ramen.
Sec For: We are the front line. The most important. Period.
    Eod/TP/CC/PJ: ................:spy:

So my Air Force recruiter has an EOD slot leaving for Basic in mid-April. Another Recruiter in the distrcit had a recruit with this job slot but he change to a different job so it's mine for the taking. Should be swearing in next Monday and then taking the past afterwards to secure the contract.

April is not far away so I'm starting to think about getting my stuff organized. I've got a sofa, recliner, queen bed, washer/dryer, tv & stand, coffee table to deal with. At least that's the big stuff.

Would it be a better to just sell what I can instead of storing everything? I figure it might be more cost effective to sell everything now and just buy again when I have a place for it. Rather than storing it for a year+ and having to pay to go get it from wherever I am....and who knows where that could be.

Congrats man, sounds like it all worked out for you in the end. If I were you I would sell the stuff and start over when you get settled. Unless, you have a buddy who would let you store your stuff for free. Chances are, unless you're married, you'll be living in barracks for a while even once you hit your duty station. Not much room to move that stuff into a barracks room. Now if you are married then it might be worth it to store the stuff because you'll qualify for housing.

Edit: Just re-read the thread and noticed you're single. I would sell the stuff and start over once you're settled.

My advice is that if you are interested in EOD, go Air-Force. My brother-in-law just retired from the Air-Force EOD (enlisted) and the places he's been and the things he got to do....

I was Army, (Not EOD) but our EOD guys spent most of their time dealing with land-mines and IEDs. Very boring compared to what the Air Force does.

Also, he is now a contractor/adviser and making amazing money.

Good luck with your EOD slot. Dad served in the Air Force for 24 years and he loved it. During his retirement speech he said something I will never forget. He said "I have served for nearly a quarter of a century and have only gone to work one or two days" I hope your future career is just as satisfying.

    Still trying to decide...
    Good luck, AF good choice!

I spent 10 years in the USAF, most of the time spend at MHAFB (Mountain Home ID) Loved it, good place to get your outdoors on!!!.

I worked as a ground Radar Tech on Sailor Creek Training range - in the Air Force you get to do it all, I spent a lot of time also working with the EOD guys.. they had to come out to the range and blow up anything that needed to be blown up!

We use to do a lot of TDY's (temporary duty assignments) and we woud go to Vegas, California, and just about anywhere there is a lot of dessert. sometimes we would work with the army at these sites... sorry to say but that made me appreciate being Air Force. The Army guys would have to go back to the barracks/some gym somewhere and sleep on cots and eat MREs, while we had to go back to the hotel, usually some kind of holiday inn, and rough it with the pool... sorry its a fact.

Not to take anything away from and branch, god bless them all, and take care of yourself!!

Damn! The black/white video looked like it was from a Sniper pod I use to maintain when I worked on F-16s. Gotta love the A-10...

Sh*t's gettin real fellas. As of today I am officially sworn into the Air Force DEP. It was a long day today waiting around for hours but that's once step closer to my goal.

I'm taking my PAST test for EOD this Thursday morning. If I pass that I'll secure my EOD contract which leaves in mid-April. :headbang:

    Wish me luck!

EOD has a PAST test now? what do they test you on?

regardless, good luck. after BMT you'll be living in my old barracks at the 342nd on Medina Annex of Lacklack AFB. you'll be there w/ PJ, CCT, and SERE trainees

if you pass your inital phase on the first go around, you should only be there for 14 days or so before you head out to FL

    Thanks!

Yes, I think they started giving the PAST for EOD sometime last year. It's just 1.5 mi run in 11:00 min, 35 push, 50 sit, 3 pull.
