Black ice is scary, that's why I put blizzaks on my tacoma for winter. Makes a very big difference in winter traction. I had to drive my friend's ford f150 on a bush road that was all ice and snow, his tires were not very good and I was not feeling very safe, truck would skid all over the place. My truck handles so much better and the traction is not even comparable.

Good luck with the adjuster tomorrow. Just to let you know the side curtain airbags were available before 08. They (and the seat side airbags) were part of a optional equipment package on my 07.

Shit... that's not "totalled" man.... that kinda damage can occur around here in the parking lots....you know "a crazy old woman opening her door too fast and not looking, before she puts her car in park"..hehehe......

Just kidding.... Glad you are fine...Taco don't look all that good; however, don't look all that bad either.....If I saw it for sale "as is"...I'd be interested...

Get the best $ you can from insurance and keep it if you can..... You might be real happy with the results....

Most likely.....I hope they don't try to fix it for you. You seem to have accepted it and are ready to move on.

If they total it just tell them you want to buy it back and they'll send you an estimate. I believe that you have first dibs on buying it back so as long as you let them know it wont be an issue

And the only thing worse than a mud terrain tire on ice is a slick, but there's not much difference. OP, glad you and your passengers are ok, and maybe consider some winter tires, or at least a winter rated all terrain like duratracs or something. You won't be invincable with them, but there is a world of difference. Good luck with insurance and getting back on the road.

Great news for you. I would consider building up a 1st gen but I'd look outside of Maine...I would basically want it to be rust-free if you're making a toy-slash-daily-driver.

Don't be afraid to travel to get the best deal...two years ago, I caught a ride to pickup up a new Nissan Versa for my daughter in Dayton, Ohio, drive it to east Texas, caught a bus home to NE Tennessee and saved about 5k in purchase price over the same vehicle, new in Texas.

Sorry to hear your truck is toast, mine has Firestone Winterforce UV with STUDS...

Listen to ^^^^ this guy^^^^ When I bought my Audi, I went to Maryland from Washington state to buy and drove it back because it was about 7k cheaper also the all-wheel-drive was not a high demand compared to out here in the frozen tundra.
Sorry to hear about your loss and glad you're ok.
