Environmentalist went nuts in 2011. For California we lost a HUGE amount of our coast to fishing via Marine Protected Areas. These were backed by Bullshit science and corporate dollars leaving the fishing industry (all aspects form commercial to dads and their kids) screwed.

As a whole outdoorsmen need to help one another become aware of these bogus acts and band together to stop them.

It is sad to hear of yet another closure of a harmless activity due to some nutjob with an agenda

It is sad, and from what I've seen, the nutjobs with the agendas are louder and more organized than those of us who use and enjoy these open spaces with our vehicles. They will continue to take from us until we have nowhere left to go.

a "kid" under 25? how did you pull that number out of your ass, what are you some kind of elitist? Just because some 30 year old has the funds to buy a new 4x4 does not make him good at it and doesn't mean he knows the first thing about tread lightly.. There are TONS of people here under 21 here who are very responsible and could wheel circles around the average person, in your classification, who is over 25.

it is sad that people are making environmental policies with an iron fist. These ignorant tree hugging morons are closing ORV areas and it is effecting the only people who care about them, the off road vehicle enthusiasts who use them. Any time we go out we always pick up trash and make sure we are very responsible whenever we are out. Pretty soon every square inch of nature on state land will be roped off and closed and we will be stuck in out homes and on the road because we have to protect EVERYTHING from EVERYTHING.

I didn't know once you turn 25 years old you magically learn everything about off-roading and the rules pertaining to "Tread Lightly"..

That sounds like some California bull shit! Yeah, let's pick a number and any one below that has to take a test in order to enjoy "our" outdoors. Let's just assume everyone in that age range is retarded and can't think for themselves. We need to think for them and tell them how to act! Typical leftist crap!!! Green off roading? WTF is that? Why do all of y'all think we gotta make everything "green"?

He does have a good point cuz kids 8-17 need to take a class to run quads. But the group of people with road going offroad vehicles and all older than that. There should at least be some sort of class offered. Or a test to get a beach sticker or something.

My original post was about the loss of freedom in a community and a way of life, not about age, responsibility, and so on.

I have been driving on those beaches since I had a learners permit, age doesn't make a difference (for the most part), common sense is everything. As a member of the Outer Banks Preservation Association since well before I could be behind the wheel(on road or off) the motto is "Preserve and Protect but not Prohibit"

And the only people I've ever seen abuse the ORV area on the outer banks were a holes in jacked up jeeps(who usual dig themselves in down to the frame and wonder what happened).

And there's no point saying anything else, because I'm sure someone will just have something negative to say, just like every other forum.

I really hate this kind of thinking. It makes me upset and sad. No one should need a "permit" to operate a vehicle off road on public lands. Though we should tread lightly to preserve the land.

Edit: Should have quoted your other post you deleted, for posterity. The one where you said everyone, regardless of age (as if that matters), needs to take a class and a test on being eco friendly to be able to operate a vehicle on any federal or state lands.

I was really bothered by that as well. This country does not need any more restrictions, classes, exams, and licenses, orchestrated by environmentalists ("tree hugging morons") or anyone else. At this rate, we'll soon need a class, exam, and license to use the darn toilet. Sadly, he deleted the comment before I could respond.

This thread is too close to political to say anything more than yes, it sucks when cool places have access removed for whatever reason and lack of respect of said places has no age boundaries.

I'm guessing he didn't like the responses he got, as his kind of thinking needs to be confined and he was not well received.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
Well what is so wrong with this, and since I am from North Carolina, and first went to the Outer Banks, in 1970 and my dad and grandparents were going fishing out there years before, is that the land was set aside with the promise to locals that it was to protect them from developers, so everyone would have access to the beach.
Cape Hatteras was the first National Seashore, during the depression because that area, like many others in the country had been hit so hard. Roads were built so the poorer and middle class people would have nice open beach to visit, before it was taken over. So now they have built roads, hotels, business to support tourist, and some of the best fishing in the world, and with a snap, its closed. You cannot even get to Hatteras point.
If they do this, is there not wild life that depends or used to depend on the beaches of Miami? Myrtle Beach? Hell here in Chicago the sewage is only half ass treated, if that, and is dumped right down the Mississippi, and if it rains too hard, into lake Michigan. Years ago they had the chance to keep the northern part wild, but they sold the land for big bucks to developers, now they want to shut the average person out.
