Here's a rough sketch of a track I'm going to attempt to construct.. I've got about 7 acres so room is no issue. That back stretch on the bottom of the drawing should be roughly 80-100 feet.

Remember, you can't make it too wide. It's amazing how two RC vehicles can find each other on a track, must less 6-8. Looks pretty similer to our layout. I think I've posted it before, but here it is again.

Yea, I plan on it being about 5 feet wide the whole way around.

You will have wished it was at least ten ft. We started out kinda narrow, (the pic was the fourth layout at this place) and always hated the fact they came out narrow.

I promise you'll thank me (well, at least understand) after the fact. How many people will be running on the track? You will see that a track will attract folks from all over. Do/will you have access to a Bobcat type loader, tractor with a landscape box? Or will it all be by hand? You'll also find it takes a butt load of dirt to make jumps and such. Will you have the means to water it? It's for sure all worth the effort, but there is a lot of work to get one up and to keep it up.

All I have for "heavy equipment" would be [maybe] a small tractor, a couple 2wd utility 4 wheelers, a garden tiller and my truck. I would say at most there would be 6-8 trucks on the track at once, and that's being somewhat generous. Most of the time it'll just be 2-4. I need to look around local for some prices to rent equipment, I just don't know if I wanna lay the money down for a bobcat.

My plan right now is to mow it down super close and spray something to kill the grass and weeds. (Dad drives a spray rig for a living so that shouldn't be a problem). Then use a tiller, hopefully I can get a tractor with a tiller box or plow on it and start a rough outline.

For most of the jumps I'm gonna bury up some old fenceposts and boards. I'm gonna have to get creative for the tabletops because I want them to be a pretty good size. The closest water source is on the backside of the house about 80 yards away, but I've got a good size water tank I can put in the truck and fill up.

The field is pretty rutted up in a few places from a small atv mx track we made a few years back so hopefully I can smooth some of that out by taking extra dirt from there.

I'm really just gonna have to play it by ear. The first step is getting down to the dirt and starting an outline.

EDIT: I think I'm gonna make another thread for this so I don't clog this one up.

Cool post a link, and I'll be happy to share some more pitfalls you may want to avoid. If you've got a tractor and box you'll be fine.

from the looks of it they fixed everything, added chassis brace, used saddle packs, and better slipper clutch
