Rev's Jump Suddenly When Stopped

Hey Guys,

Newbie here. Just bought an 08 double cab 4x4 with about 23,000 miles a month ago. Couldn't be happier with the truck, it's the truck I always wanted - even if I won a million bucks!!!

I have very little knowledge about engines apart from the basics. After about a month of driving it, I have noticed that when I am waiting at a red light for instance, the revs jump and the truck wants to move forward. I usually don't have my foot on the brake all that hard, unless I'm on a hill, so it tends to startle me - even now that it's happened a few times. It doesn't actually take off or anything, but it does budge a little and seems a bit odd.

I am trying to narrow down the window becuase it doesn't happen all the time. I thought maybe when it's very cold, in other words the engine may not have warmed up completely, but that has not always been the case. Not a deal breaker by any means, but wondering if this is normal, or a quick fix?

Air conditioner compressor kicking on , it will do that if on either of the defrost settings

 

First of all .... Welcome to the forum.

The increase in revs is "normal". I have read that its related to the AC compressor. Used to freak me out too but I got used to it.

I have the same issue, but i never use the a/c so?

Actually it's not the a/c compressor (though this can do it too)... it's actually a delay in the auto downshifting to 1st gear. Both my 08 and 10 does it, normal operation. Just the torque in downshifting bumping the truck a bit. Over time you'll learn to hold the brake down just a tad harder
