Ugly as fuck. Still. Diesels in mid-sized trucks are stupid and overrated. :D

Probably. I saw a total of 4 Hilux's when I lived in San Diego. All of them had Mexican plates.

My thoughts as well. And, BTW, have you priced diesel lately?

No, nor do I care. I have no need for diesel either way. :p

My 3.4 suits me well. :D

No, I'm pretty sure it didn't.

I can take a closer look next time. (Probably this weekend) It seems like the owner lives stateside because I've seen this particular truck numerous times pulling into the same location.:spy:

If it has American plates, you may want to ask him how he managed to import it.

I have driven a Hilux diesel Turbo. It had good power and was quite good on fuel.

I highly doubt it has US plates. It's nearly impossible to import those things. :p

From the small glimpse we get of it, I can't recognize which US state it could be.

The skewp's ram force induction has been known to pick up babies and hurl them into the engine.

    One possible way:
    1. Buy and register the Hilux in Mexico with Mexican plates.
    2. Drive it into the US.
    3. Find an old Toyota pickup for cheap (though not a salvage title).
    4. Transfer the old pickup's VIN plate to the new Hilux.
    5. Move the plates from the old pickup or get new plates depending on how your state does things.

As far as the DMV is concerned you've simply done a "restoration" of the old pickup.

It's what Icon 4x4 does. They find VIN plates from old FJ40s and transplant them to the new $100000 vehicles, so the owners are exempt from emissions testing.

I believe they sell entire fiberglass tubs for CJ Wranglers, which means you'll have to move the VIN plate from one body to another. What if you did an engine swap at the same time? Is it still the same vehicle? What if the frame rotted and you replaced that too? :)
