    I was bitten by a Black Widow years ago, and it turns out, Im alergic. The pain in the bite area went away in about 30 mins. Then, my chest developed a pain that felt like a cramp. It got worse. After 6 hours, I could hardly breathe. At that point, I thought I might need to go to the hospital. As I went inside to grab the phone, I stopped breathing. I remembered thinking "Why cant I breathe?", then I passed out. I woke up once as I was being carried down my stairs, and once as I was being rushed into the ER. Evidently, My room mate was trying to talk to me as I walked inside to call 911. I didnt hear anything. He saw me fall down, and saw I wasnt breathing, so he called 911. I was in the hospital for 3.5 days. I couldnt work for 2 weeks afterwards. SO.....Yeah....Im scared of spiders now.

    I had a similar experience , I went into anaphalactic shock after a wasp sting , very nearly died , had to stay in the hospital for 5 days , and stay inside for another week after that .

    Wow man, nasty stuff, never been bitten by a black widow, not allergic to wasps, I work outdoors and part of the job is going into valve boxes, black widows LOVE valve boxes. I've seen hundreds of black widows. Widows by their nature are not aggressive, when I see em, I would take something long like a stick, bang it around inside the box, the widow would crawl down into one of the bottom corners and leave me alone to do my work, I have never had one come after me and as long as i didn't stick my hands down into the corners and threaten them, they won't bite.
    Now Wolf Spiders? That's another story, THOSE motherfuckers will come up out of the box after you and chase you down the street. Their bites are horrible, it looks like a flesh eating bacterial infection.
    Wasps? meh? killed lot's of em, yellow jackets too, hate those little bastards.
