:wave:Just stopped by to say hello to you good folk. 30 yrs!

I had to wait 25 yrs to get back into a Toyota Truck. Traded my 1981 SR5 pick-up in on a "family friendly" vehicle in May 1985. Bought my current truck in May 2010 as a retirement present when I retired from AD (Nov 2009) and settled into my second career...had to wait 6 months for the dust to settle before plunking down the cash. ;)

Pray all is well with all of you! :)

Welcome Steve and thank you for your service A lot of us in this thread are retired or former military.

5 Toyota Trucks in 30 years is pretty impressive. How many are still in your family doing duty?

The first small pickup I owned was a 1964 Nissan it had a 4spd. column shift, little fins on the back and a hand crank in the tool kit! Then I had a couple Datsun's one I painted Thunderbird pink for my wife. I finally graduated to a 1980 SR5 long bed then a 89 4X4, a 94, 97, and now the 2011 that I hope will last until they take my keys away. Most I turned over because I was in the repair/wholesale trade for 35 years the old SR5 I drove because I needed on my farm till about 285K then gave it to a neighbor and the same with the 97 that was a great truck sold it with 249K. I wish my new one was the same size as the 97 and had lock out hubs and a transfer case shifter I’m never real sure about “improvements”.
I forgot to add I owned a Toyota motor home too 6000# and a 22RE what a power house!

Morning everyone and welcome, Steve!! My first Toyota was a '90 4Runner.

Haven't been on much - Lynn's youngest brother lost his 3 year fight with cancer on Sunday. He lived in Gainesville and taught at UFL so we've been coordinating services and rememberances there and here. We''ll be burying his ashes on our property in a few weeks. Only 51 years old.

Sorry to hear that, Mark. Stinks when someone so young loses that battle (lost my sister when she was 47)

morning all: gotta laugh at some of the posts us "old timers" make. the younguns seem to go right to the top stuff.

my first 4x was a 1942 FORD jeep (MB). no one would go to canada with me. 45 mph up and back, and felt every tar strip on road. during winter, had to stick my hand out the window and spray de-icer on the windshield-no darn heater, and vacum wipers. then got a toyota land cruiser, I think it was a 1963. when we were going to work and it rained, anyone in the back seat had to shift their feet on the floor so they wouldn't get wet from the water coming through the holes.

then I got a really neat 4x, a 1963 dodge car, with header sidepipes, mounted on a ford F-250 drive train. back bumper was 38 1/2" off the ground. never did get it leaglly on the road. got to drive it a little, when I first got it, with the owners permission, and got stopped by every cop that saw it. what was I thinking.??? ended up towing it to play, with a brand new 1976 jeep renegade, that cost $6,000. AH! MEMORIES!!

posts came up while I was doing this post.
Mark-sorry to hear about you'r brother in law. very unfortunate, and my condolences to you and your family.

Sorry to hear about your families loss. My BIL fought cancer for 4 years and finally threw in the towel 3 years ago this June.

He put on the pads and snapped the helmet on tight with his battle. He was one of the nicest persons I have ever known.

Well breakfast is almost complete and i need to get painting the master bedroom. I need it finished by Monday. ;)

Next day blinds is in on Saturday to measure the windows and place the order.

    Next week
Carpenter is in Monday to install new doors on both closets and install base board molding.

Next day blinds is in on Wednesday to install the blinds.

Flooring company is in on Friday to install the hardwood floor.

Next weekend I will be putting the room back together.

So far I am under budget. That will go out the window if we order a new mattress. I have the CFO's approval for the new mattress but she wants to look at the income tax first. ;)

And since we are on the topic of former trucks, I have never had a 4X4 but my next one may be. I have had a 71 or 72 Hilux, what a POS, and a 79 Dodge D-50 which was not a bad little truck. My current Tacoma is the nicest truck I have ever had.

My first truck was a 1990 Nissan pickup. Then the neighbor brought home a Toyota pick up - either a '90 or '91. Wished I had waited. But it was a good little truck. Fast forward to Halloween eve 2005... son called "mom, I've got some bad news... I just wrecked your truck" He said the guy in front of him, was doing the speed limit and when a police officer passed going the other way, the guy SLAMMED on the brakes (they were on the freeway). He didn't stop in time and smashed the front end. He did pick the best option - the other car. His other choices were a concrete pole or concrete barrier. It was fixable, but I didn't have the knowledge then, so sold it for next to nothing and the guy fixed it. After not having a truck for almost a year, decided it was time to get my Toyota after 16 years.

back again: after trip to ins. agent, found out the "credit" wasnt really a credit . it was the discount of 7%, that was already taken off. maby if they would have listed it as a discount off the total, or premium reduction, or something like that, I would have understood it better. to me, when you have a credit, that means you overpaid and they owe you.

and the other carb: it's on it's way, and he returned my shipping cost through paypal. now just gotta hope this ones not damaged.

I'm beginning to believe in the old saying - if it weren't for my bad luck, I'd have no luck at all !

amazing the amount of "not so old" people being mentioned, on just this thread, that have had their life cut short by cancer.

It sure is Carl. My BIL was 66. And I consider 66 to be young as well.

Lunch is almost finished then back to painting. I need to put primer on the walls and the second coat of paint on the ceiling. Tomorrow I will need to worry about cutting in the walls to the ceiling. Today the painting is a lot easier. ;)

ok. so this bugs me. do you all have a hard time keeping up with car keys in the house? my parents can’t seam to keep track of them. at all!! i need the scion key to move it to get the rhino out. but i can’t move it. i suspect mom has all the keys to all 3 vehicles AGIN! she always put them in her purse even for the car/truck she is not driving.

Key rack in the kitchen helps in this area.
