A 4"x3"x10mm thick clay bar with some lubricant which can just be overly soapy water.

OP , where are you trying to buy it , a 2 second google search shows it for sale at Canadian Tire for $29.99

 

Lordco Autoparts. Problem with all these kits is you get a very small portion of clay.

 

I googled CT and found that same price. Still a crap load for just a chunk of clay.

All I want is a large size of detailing clay.

 

The kits usually come with 2 clay bars, put them together and you have one large piece of clay... I'd just use the smaller piece though because if you happen to drop it, you still have a spare. Plus, when you mash it down, it's about the size of your hand anyways.

 

If you found the $29 price , why are you saying it's $40 ?

 

Did not find the 35 dollar price till you metioned Canadian Tire. Before that it was 33.99 at LORDCO.

Lordco is expensive dude. I do know Lordco has 40% off for BCIT students. It's like 50/50 on whether they ask for student ID.

 

I paid $20 at Walmart . 2 bars, lubricant spray, spray wax and microfiber cloth.

You don't need a huge chunk anyways... a half a golfball sized chunk is more than adequate.

Yes, it's expensive, but consider what it is.
It's not just modeling clay. It is called "clay" but only because it kinda looks and feels like it. It's not clay, it's a polymer, and it is absolutely clean and free of manufacturing debris that might scratch your paint.

Lubricant? I use quick detail spray.
