This is just hearsay, but isn't mud one of the single most detrimental things for anything mechanical? Also if I'm not mistaken, on 1GR-FE's the alternator is on the lower left side of the engine. Lots of slots for mud to get in... Hope this helps, and whatever that noise is, i hope is not the alternator on the way out.

I'm all for offloading, but willingly, and intentionally, subjecting my truck to deep mud is not something I do. In fact I try to avoid unnecessary puddles, unless there really is no going around them. I know a bunch of you will tell me to loosen my girls underwear, but until I finish paying this thing off, I don't want to do something I might regret..... Ya know whadamean?

Both of you guys got stuck in deep water. Most likely it is dirt from that water that is making the noise in the alt. Spray water from a GARDEN HOSE at high pressure (not from a car wash). If you have any dirt in there it should come out this way.
You may need to start the engine to move the bearing and repet the process. GL

You should be able to get to them fairly easy, definitely want to do it soon, when the mud drys up becomes a real female dog to get out.
