New OBX Proposed ORV Rules

Someone just posted this on Expedition Portal. Here is a link for the new proposed ORV regulations for the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. You will have a chance to post a comment if needed as the comment period is currently open.

It looks like you will have to purchase an ORV use permit to be able to drive on the beach. Not sure if this applies to Oregon Inlet and/or Corolla/Carova Beach driving.

if they opened the beach back up the dow dow birds would just nest back in the interior like back in the day

I was just reading about this BS today. Haven't been able to find any info on fines if you don't get a permit. Wonder which is cheaper - the permit or the fine? Might be worth risking it. The many times I've driven out to Oregon Inlet, I've yet to see any park rangers (has been a while since I've been down there though). Guess I'll stick to driving up to the Carova beaches - those are still free.

Oh and to any Toyota driver that goes down there, be prepared for the possibility of confrontation. There's some animosity because Toyota apparently donated $1 million to the Audubon Society - the ones that fought for this crap.

 

You can rest assure that you'll see more park rangers once the permitting is implemented!
