:spy: Going to drop the ball and get one eh? I had the Rebel XS as you know, and it wasn't a bad little camera at all. And would probably fit the bill for what you want to use it for. But we'll let some of the smarter guys on here help you out with your decision.

He does it using a tilt shift lens. Im not real sure how it works but gets some bad ass shots using that lens!

Tilt shift works by simulating a narrow depth of field, commonly found on close up macro shots. This is done by blurring the top and bottom of the image.

TS lenses do the same thing.

Yep, you are correct ^ I use PS, I might spring for a T/S lens one day as much as I like doing these, but damn they are $$$$.

@ VirginiaBound I would recommend a t2/t3i if you can spring for it. They have some good package deals on those too. Nice starter camera, then get your self a "nifty fifty" 50 1.8 for around $100 when you can spend the cash. That will be a nice set for you.

I'd have to agree that the Rebel would be a great first camera. As time goes and you get better, it's also an OK second body if you choose.

Any of the Canon entry levels would be great. xs, xsi, t2, and t3. Plus they are pretty easy to learn.

I just sold my xsi to my brother and picked up a higher end setup. He wanted to learn

Technically, tilt shift photography is accomplished by changing the angle of the focus plane relative to the camera's sensor. In post processing you are correct...it is usually accomplished with blurring. :)

Yeah I wasn't too sure how the actual lenses worked. I only have experience with the PS method.

+1000. I had a t2i for a bit and it was a STELLAR little camera. The shots I took with it and the 50 1.8 were some of the best I've ever taken. I'm rollin with a Nikon D7000 now but I still miss that little rebel.

What do you guys have for camera bags? I have yet to buy one. I am for now wrapping my camera in a towel and putting it into a small duffel bag. I am looking for something small enough to not be a pain, and something I can leave the lense attached to the camera because I only have the one lense. Any suggestions? My camera is a Canon T2 and a 18-135canon IS lense. Thanks.

I have the Tamrac 5502, great little compact bag. I keep my 55-250 detatched (it will fit on the camera as well) and the 18-55 attached to the camera in it. Also fits my charger and cables with room to spare.

They typically have two axis. One is tilt and the other, shift. When you shift, the lens moves on the same plane as the shutter. Landscape shooters will often make two exposures by shifting the lens and stitching (ala panorama) them in PS. The traditional use is in architecture for keeping buildings straight--sort of the same way you do it with a view camera.

I have two for sale if you might like.-----

Here is my post from POTN forum.----

I have two lightly used camera bag for sale.
    $125 for the Kata
    $100 for the Crumpler

First is my Kata R103 bag, in very good condition, other then a drop of sap that fell from a tree, ( you can see the spot on the smaller opening zipper area) I have all the stuff that came with it, including the camera strap, water proof cover, little side bags and laptop dividers. I would like $125 ish for it, shipped and PP'd.

Here is some info about it.
The compact R-103 is designed to hold a Digital / SLR body with up to 300mm lens attached, an extra body, 4-5 lenses. Additional accessories, like flash-unit, filters, charger, cables and personal essentials can be stored in the spacious arched lid compartment, the 2 outside pockets and the central mesh/vinyl pocket. It even holds a 16" laptop!!! Exterior made of highly durable, waterproof TST (Thermo Shield Technology) Padded shoulder strap, detachable hip belt and water proof cover.

you can see the spot right in the center, Im sure something would take off the sap, but it didn't bother me that bad.

Plenty of room in this bag to grow, I can carry all my lenses and then some!

Cool quick access port to just your camera, best thing about this bag!!!

Next we have my wife's camera bag, a very cool and rare Crumpler Puppet. I would like around $100 for Crumpler shipped and PP'd

She liked this bag because it doesn't look like a camera bag, and its light weight and comfortable.
This is a smaller bag but still holds 4 or so lenses and other things, but takes up less room then my kata and is less bulky.

Bag is in great condition all the way around, and also has room for a small laptop, and includes a laptop sleeve.

Here is a link for a little more info on it, scroll down to the second bag.
