Hi all, figured I would do a quick write up on this for anyone looking to organize the center console in the 2nd Gen's.

1st I would like to give credit where credit is due, even though this is not the exact same thing, I got the idea from this thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...50-center-console-power-inverter-install.html OP jackrules.

So I wanted something because I have a bunch of shit in the center console and it was always a pain in the ass to find something in there. I don't have any pics with everything in there, but it was pretty much filled to the top.

So I started out buying this
    [IMG]
At Home Depot for $14. Its pretty much the same as the Lexan stuff that is a lot more expensive.

So I measured out 6 1/2 inches for the height of the console (top to bottom)

Now this is the 1st time I have ever worked with this stuff, so I'm not very good with it. I used a utility knife and a strait edge to cut this part, since it was pretty long. I'm sure there is a better way, and that would make a cleaner cut, but this is what I did.

So I cut out a strip 6 1/2 inches tall all the way down the length of the piece of Optix.

    Then I cut a piece 10 1/4 inches long

This is the length from front to back of console.

    Then I cut 2 pieces 7 1/2 inches long.

This is the width of the console and it is between the hinges of the console lid. If you know what I mean, and if you don't , you will see what I mean in the finished product.

Also I used a Dremel for these shorter cuts, which was a pain in itself. Went through a few cut off wheels.

So then I put the pieces for the width of the console, in the console and figured out where I wanted to divide them with the one longer front to back piece. This is something you can figure out yourself, because you can put it anywhere you want. I just set up the 2 smaller pieces where they will go, then I held the longer section on top and put a mark where I wanted to put it.

Then I measured half way down the piece, and went a little more to give myself some play and drilled a hole.

Used a 9/64" size bit, which is slightly thicker than the Optix.

Then I used the Dremel and cut a slot down to each hole I drilled in all 3 pieces. (sorry, no pics of the slots) This is going to let it fit together like a puzzle.

Not the greatest pic, but here is is all fit together.

And here it is all together inside of the console

And here it is with all my crap in it.

SO much better than before, and actually gave me more space for other things! And using the clear Optix, lets you see where things are also.

So there you have it. This is not the nicest or cleanest thing I have ever made, and I will probably make another one some day, and do cleaner cuts and whatnot, but I'm happy with it for now and figured I would share it with you guys, in case anyone wanted something like this.

All in all, took me about 45 mins to do, so its something that does not take long to do.

    Enjoy!

    Yes.
Good idea, looks nice. I only keep CDs in mine though. (And cigarettes, if I happen to drive through a state that sells them cheaper. Haha.)

Yeah West Virginia is the closest that has a little cheaper. I hit up stores down there when I go.
