Ive been doing some research on different mufflers and the one i have my eye on right now is the cherry bomb extreme. Its a tiny single chamber muffler and its case is only 6 inches long. Im thinking about doing a single in dual out (2 1/2 in, 2 1/4 outlets) with turndowns but Im wondering how is it going to sound? Is it going to be deep or is it just going to be loud? Im looking for something really loud (not so loud that everytime I pass a cop the lights come on) but also very deep. I had the opportunity to hear a flowmaster on a newer 4.0 taco and it had a nice deep sound to it but it wasnt very loud at all in my opinion so im thinking this is my best bet but i want some more opinions. Is anyone out there running this muffler? If so, how do you like it? All help would greatly be appreciated here

i think a cherry bomb that is only 6 inches long is gonna be very loud.......and i do mean loud. i have a flowmaster original 40(with duals) and its prety loud, but its not annoying. if you are gonna run duals, i think it may tone it down just a bit to make a good rumble, but i think its still gonna be loud as hell.

you could actually install a flowmaster 40 and get some one to cut out your two rear cats and run straight pipe(also doing this will not trip a cel) and it will be "pleasantly loud" imo. nice rumble and all. i think you would probably be the first ive heard of running a cherry bomb on the 4.0 tacoma.......i say go for it, if it isnt gonna be all that much, and you can always swap out to something you will like better.

Mines actually an 02 with the 3.4L, sorry for the confusion, I was just saying that I heard a 4.0 with a flowmaster. When you say run duals, you mean actually run them out of the back right? My initial plans were to do a dual turndown for now because turndowns usually make the exhaust deeper from what i understand and not to mention can hear it on the interior more :D As far as prices go, I havent contacted any muffler shops yet but the price of the muffler is around 50 bucks on the websites i found so its not all that bad. Everyone Ive showed it to says the same thing about it being really loud but im still wondering if its going to have any deepness to it

well, if you are gonna do turndowns, it may make it deeper........but i still think its gonna be hella loud. if you dont mind interior resonance being very high....i say go for it.............might have an awesome sound to it. cant really tell until you get it on the truck.

I love interior resonance and it doesnt bother me one bit. Usually its just me in the truck anyways and from what I see I guess Im going to be one of the first to try this muffler out. Due to school/working combination, I dont have alot of free time anymore but I may see if I can slip getting it done this thursday :D Im just hoping it has a nice and deep sound with the loudness and not sound like I played in the fast and the furious ;)

Magnaflow is louder than the Flowmaster, if you want a nice low loud sound. Cherry bombs will always be the loudest though. Probably not going to sound very performance though. THey are cheap for a reason, they are not made for any specific application. There is a sound bite for the Magnaflow exhaust here somewhere, try to search for it. I have the Magnaflow, it sounds great.

When you refer to cherrybombs not having a performance tone, are you talking about a glasspack or this muffler? I was always thinking that flowmaster was actually louder than magnaflow because back when I had my mustang, I compared it to several different set ups from various people I came across and listening to a magnaflow, it had a higher pitch and didnt idle as loud as mine. Which magnaflow do you have? I think the one I heard must have had a quieter version

Edit: I should have put it in my first post but here is a link to the muffler: http://www.cherrybomb.com/extreme-mufflers.html From what I see all it has in it in a triangle baffle so not much noise is going to be held back :D

I have not seen a cherrybomb that was made for a specific engine. Other mufflers are. That it what I meant. All of the cherry bombs I have seen sounded like someone just took out the cat, not added a muffler. Just my opinion though.
My magnaflow does not idle as loud as a Flowmaster, but when you give it some gas, it is much louder.

After seeing this video on youtube, Im sold. Theres no doubt this is the muffler Im going to go with. I searched and listened to several different exhausts on tacomas and this is definitely my favorite of them all. Theres also a video posted by the same person after headers and intake and it sounds even better. What does everyone else think about it? :D
(FYI, it says imco extreme but its the same as the cherry bomb extreme, I read that cherry bomb bought imco out)

I've got an 02 w/3.4L, let me know how it turns out.......is yours a 4x4 or TRD offroad? Does it matter? How much did it or will it set you back?

Will do, as far as prices go, Im going to call tomorrow between school and work to see how much its going to run and plan on getting it installed thursday after school. Mines just a prerunner but i think as long as we both have the same engine, it should sound pretty much the same. I'll try to get a vid up on youtube friday after school if it doesnt rain and do a write up on how it sounds

Hey everyone, just as an update, after school today, a buddy of mine and I rolled up to the muffler shop and had the cherry bomb extreme welded on and it sounds amazing for a v6. I got the 3 inch inlet and 2.5 inch outlets with turndowns and the sound it produces is LOUD and very deep. And when I say loud, i mean its hard to clearly hear your radio unless you pump it all the way up loud. Idling, in my opinion, it sounds like a small v8 (its not super loud) but when you get on it, it gets very aggressive, probably one of the best sounding v6's Ive ever heard and i have no regrets doing it. If you dont like loud, this isnt the muffler for you but if you want a DEEP and LOUUUD muffler, you should seriously look into this one. The only downside to it I can see is that the fact that its so loud (especially with the turndowns) and all of the noise is in the cab but it sounds so good and flooring it, its still deep but it gets a little higher like all v6's do. Im still going to try to get a vid of it up because I know yall will like it but I think im going to eventually have my pipes ran out some kind of way so I dont get all of that noise (after I have my fun with it at least. It turned heads EVERYWHERE and I even had a mustang owner come up to me and ask what kind of exhaust system it was)

I agree go with magnaflow, I love the sound of my truck, wouldn't have it any other way. Don't ever get cherry bombs on anything, I think they are very trashy. Plus you won't get any performance out of them, its just noise. I will be posting a sound clip of mine either today or tomorrow. Here is a website where you can hear the Magnaflow on Tacomas and Tundras.

why does everybody have an obsession about making their truck loud? I want to surprise people when I pull away from them. Here's my exception, I'll accept a louder truck if I can get some decent performance gains from it.
