First time checking mpg on the Tacoma

So I had to take a trip and decided for the first time in two years to put more than $20 in gas and fill that effer up. $60 not as bad as I thought. But it still hurt. I calculated my miles and bigger tires then divided gallons and got 17.5 with my heavy toyo mts. It way more than I expected. I love my truck so much more now, didnt think that was possible

My bad. I know a lot of people that don't fill back up and say the needle is at half a tank so it must be a half tank left.

And some claim their trucks consistently get over 20 too...?? I doubt it. If you drive downhill with a strong wind going too and from .... then maybe

 

I can get over 20mpg with the tires over 40psi and nothing but highway speed at around 65 any higher and it drops quick.

 

It's largely the tires. Mine shake in sheer terror at the sight of sand or mud. If they could drop scat they would and then slip in it, scream while falling off the truck and then just run off into the woods.

However, my last tank I filled at 357.2 miles and the (darned inconsistent) light wasn't even on. It's even the middle of winter, albeit a decidedly mild one, but still needing 4WD at times. Average since I started recording every fill since November 27 is 20.2, so technically over 20.

+1 for fill to the auto shutoff, drive, fill up again and calculate, rinse and repeat often. Anything else is *insert comment referring to (insert least favorite) salesman here* for really knowing your mileage.
