Picking out tires today

Hey Guys! I'm new to the forums and just joined a few minutes ago. I've got a 2008 taco and stock tires are bald so I went to discount last saturday and they recommended yokohama geolanders. Stock size were 245/75/16 but I went with 265/70/16. They siped the tires too..

We just had a bad snowstorm yesterday and I drove the truck to the dealer to get the check engine light fixed. The truck was not stable and seemed like no traction at all. I was on four wheel drive already and trying to change lane was scary. It feels like I'll get a bump steer and then the truck swerves back and forth. It's sad that a little old subaru was passing me and then a honda crv. This was at 30 mph and those two were probably going 45/50mph.

I called discount and they said if I didnt feel safe to trade them in at no charge. I originally wanted the falken rocky mountain ats but they said the tires doesnt last long but I like the 8 ply on them. I want a rugged feel of the truck that handles well. The stock tires had so much flx that it almost feels like its gonna roll over on corners. Another tire they told me to get are the Goodyear silent armors. I little bit more but a lot less than BFG.

Your opinion and experience with tires are greatly appreciated. I will be heading to discount this morning so hoping to see some replies.
I want the confidence that I can go anywhere without issues as I have 3 kids riding in the back.

Also, that check engine light came on at 4000 miles and it was the evap system so they replaced the charcoal canister. Now, at 29,600 it happened again. Same issue and was replaced per warranty. I never top off at the pump and truck is parked on a leveled spot. Is this a known issue? The tech did the diagnostics test twice for me after he replaced it and all came out ok after the new one was put on.

Hi Dave, and OP, this guy runs a tire store and knows what he's talking about.

 

My personal favorite has to be the Goodyear duratrac. They're as close to a mt without buying an mt, they're siped and handle ice and snow great! Or, a lot of guys on here run BFG AT's and love them, I've never run them myself.

So pass on the falkens? The goodyear silent armor has the severe service emblem which makes me go with this tire instead but considering the falken just because of the 8ply since I do not like the body roll and that might help but reviews on the falken says some peolle still feel flex and wanders on the highway. hmmm..

 

what are you looking to get out of this tire off roading highway driving??

 

I see the BFG T/A KO or the BFG rugged all terrain T/A (highway all season)?

 

I have never tried them (yet) but from the info and reviews the cooper discovery at3 tires are what im going for. Good prices also discount quoted me 605 for all 4 shiped.

I want to get rid of body roll/flex ( im chaging shocks next year to something stiffer). I do not off road at all. I want the tires to be smooth on the highway (doesnt wander) and I want a rugged look. I dont mind a little bounce if the tires are heavy or stiff like an 8 or 10 ply would do. I will be towing a car during the summer (my race car).

 

BTW, I get a pretty good discount as my long time friend is the mgr at the store. Free everything except the tires but I get them at his family cost price! Geolanders cost me $120 each, free mount and balance and free extra siping. The yoko just didnt hold up yesterday during the blizzard. Getting passed by an old subaru and crv was bad.
driving 20mph and others 45-50. My truck had afull tank of gas and the bed was covered with snow for extra weight.

I dont see the duratrac on 265/70/16.

 

bridgestone does not make a lt in that size but the p265/70r16
will work fine ck out the revos replace the shocks and front strut
with the billstein 5100s front and rear i have heard of some puting
on a rear sway bar to help with body roll on the highway
to check out the bridgestone at revo2 go to tire rack

 

I should probably look it up myself...but laziness makes me want the shortcut.

Is the AT Revo 2 available in an E rating. Hope I'm asking that right...what I'm looking for is heavy sidewalls for gravel road use during hunting season; combined with good road manners and good performance for occasional sand/dirt/mud/rock stuff. I run Blizzak winter tires and love them...I'm looking for a good summer tire for the Alaska environment...if that makes sense.

To the OP...hope you don't consider this a thread jack.

 

I reading up the reviews not on discount and tirerack. Those were the shocks I'm planning on getting maybe this summer when it's warm to switch them out. I've got 3 feet of snow outside to get through this morning. smh.

Sorry to hear the Geolanders didn't work out, this is pretty much the first bad I've heard on them. I've only had mine for just over a week so far but love them to this point. Of course we don't have the snow to worry about down here, maybe once a year at most. Even then usually only 1-3 inches. Good luck. My other choices were Nitto's which I kept reading they didn't last. So my next would be the Cooper AT3's, I've read and heard so much good on them and they look great too. I was torn on them but got the Yoko's a bit cheaper so I went with them.
