I was pulling up to my house last night and outta no where the truck started vibrating extremely bad so I stop. I take off and hear a squeaking nose and can't locate it. I can drive for a lil and outta nowhere it starts vibrating bad, the passenger seat is shaking front to back horribly and I can barely hold on to the steering wheel. Im usually good with this kind of stuff but I can't find anything out of place or unusual. Please help

Damn....could be anything. Something has definetly come loose. I had a spring perch break loose from the axle tube once on a Jeep that did this. The whole vehicle was shaking & vibrating....bad thing is, the break point was hard to notice.

First easy check to do is, check your U-joints and inspect you rear driveshaft for lateral play. Your center support bearing is housed by a rubber bushing, so it should have a little play to absorb some shock.

Is your truck lifted or does it have stock suspension?

I looked at that. How much play should it have exactly? I can move it what I think is quite a bit but this is the only vehicle ive had with a carrier bearing, im not sure if its the rubber moving or thd bearing in the rubber

Yes I bought it with this stupid lift already on it a few months ago and im waiting for my mid travel to show up already lol. The bearing is spaced down im guessing to help with the driveline angle cause of the lift

Couldn't tell ya how much play the bushing has right off the bat. The best way I could tell ya how to check if the center bearing has play is to jack under where the U-joint is to support the shaft by the bearing then grasp the other side to see if it has any play. I don't know any other way to do it with out disassembling it. I just checked my bushing play and it has about .25" of up and down play, and maybe .175" side to side.

thats not death wobble. death wobble is when a vehicle goes over a surface and the vehicles steering/suspension cannot get it to recover from uneven road surfaces. more common in jeeps/chrysler

I bet center bearing. When it went on my old truck there was like 5" of "play" I can't believe the drive shafts didn't fall out. [IMG][IMG]

For safety, on as flat of a surface as possible, put the jack stands under the rear axle as close to the leaf springs as possible. Chock at least one of the front wheels with blocks. When you put the trans in gear, only put it in 1st or reverse just in case(highly unlikely though) but just in case it does come off the stands, it won't go that far. Even better, is to have a second person to ease on the gas, at that point you can have the trans in D. You can hit the gas with your hand and look under the truck at the same time to see what's going on. Other guys have strapped a camera under the truck to see and hear what's happening, and there are U tube vids of this as well to cross reference. The jack stand method is never recomended, so use your own discretion, and please be safe. Post a vid if you can.

Just get under your truck, grab the drive shaft and shake it. If it moves more than a very tiny amount.....welcome to the center bearing replacement club.

The dealer wants 206 dollars! is a one piece drive shaft worth the extra hundred bucks to not have to have this problem again?
