The "quick connect" ability would be ideal. That way if I take the topper off completely or sell it, I'm not resplicing a tailight's wiring back to normal.

How I do that is the question. I have no experience with anything electrical that isn't pre wired.

    So far my plan is...

    1) Disconnect battery (safety first).
    2) Remove brake light housing.
    3) Chicken out.
    4) Reinstall battery and tailight housing.
    5) Go to a shop.

Well if you do decide to come let me know. I have everything to redo the wires already. Only take a few minutes.

I'll definitely try and make it. I'll mount the light tomorrow, the topper needs a little tightening up any way. It's a great top but boy is it a struggle setting it back up after being folded down for a few months.

This is what I would do, but pull the bulb from the 3rd brake on the truck before you install the cap...I hate seeing that light on with a cap on...

Red is power black is ground...splice wires off of the taillights or 3rd light housing to the location of the connector for the cap...attach those wires to a connector and install the counterpart end of the connector on the caps brake light wires...connect them while the cap is on and disconnect them when the cap is off...

For the Besttop I would say be the easy way is to tap into the taillight break light its right there no need to run a wire all the way back.

I agree. From what I can tell that is what most people do. I'll just have to make sure there is sufficient slack in any wires or that its wired in a way that would allow me to fold the top back without taking off the brake light.

Or a plug you can disconnect when you fold the cap back?
