For anyone who's interested, you can achieve the tilt shift effect with gimp, it's a free edititing software similar to photoshop. I'll post a sample image, and if people want a little how-to cuz it's different than photoshop.

    Base image
    [IMG]

Step 1: Load image into Gimp.

    Step 2: Copy base layer
    [IMG]

Step 3: On the copied layer go to Filters, Blur, and select Gaussian Blur. Set the bluriness level to anywhere between 30 and 40. I used 40... kinda blury.

Step 4: By right clicking on the copied layer select add layer mask, in the promt window make sure it's on White (full opacity)

Step 5: Now working on the layer mask, go to the gradient tool in the tool box thingy.

Step 6: In the gradient settings, choose the bi-linear shape, and i set opacity to around 70-80 and offset around 20. use whatever you think looks best.

Step7: With the gradient tool draw a vertical line from the mid-point of the area you want to isolate to the bottom. play areound with it to get a look you're happy with.

Step 8: make sure you are still working on the layer mask, go in with the eraser to add blur, and the paintbrush to make it sharper. Make sure your foreground color is black, and background color is white. when you do this, mess around to get a feel for it. do this to make it look right, so things in the same area (like vertical things that would be in focus, but arent because they go into the blurry area) make them sharp... basically things that are the same depth need to be touched up so it looks believable. Notice in my example the lamp posts.

Step 9: Now on the copied layer, click on the layer to get off the layer mask, then go to the colors drop down wind, and go into the color balance, then the color hue to make it look artificial. Mess around with the adjustments, you'll know when you have the best results by what you're looking for! here is the pretty much finished image. :)

I'm by no means good at this, and i'm sure much better results will be obtained by other people. I hope this helps! Also, sorry i didn't use a picture of a tacoma, but i don't have any good pictures of my truck!!!

I never knew this was even out there until I seen this thread. I've created a couple of decent shots, using a app on my iPad called snapseed, it's a pretty fair editting app. It seems that he pic has to be just right for the effect to pop, then maybe that's just this apps limitations. But anyways, here are a couple from pics I already had. Have not had a chance to shoot any of my truck, yet. What do you think?

You want to use a horizontal blur, not a circle one. And want to have the shot taken from a high vanatage point

yeah bumping the saturation up on tilt shift photos helps give them that fake plastic-like look.

I'll try that next time. Not very many colors out here to saturate. Bunch of grey, leafless, oak trees... Absolutely no variance. I'll mess around with it a little! Thanks man!
