What are your intentions with the vehicle? You gonna race or just bash around? If racing, see what classes are the most popular at your track. I still love stadium trucks (RC10T4) but, they are not quite as popular as the short course trucks now, even though the stadium trucks are faster and better handling than the SCs. But if there's no class, or very little intrest in that class, you may want to go another direction. Associated still makes some of, if not the best stuff out there, of course, that's my opinion, YMMV. If you've been out for that many years, (I started in 1985), your gonna trip on how brushless motors and li-po batteries have increased runtimes and power output.

    Yeah.
Thanks for the reply. I would want to race again. I was relatively competitive at my previous local track without going crazy on the tech. It was always surprising how much money people would spend, not do good maintenance or setup, and then get all pissed when their car broke. Or, they change everything between races. Not looking to win really, just have fun and be competitive.

The local tracks seem to run the SC4 class, but I haven't been out to see what the turnout for each class is. The 4x4 class is probably not huge, though, and it took me a while to figure out that there was a difference between regular and SC trucks! Looks like stock and modified SC 2WD, but only Open 4WD is typically run. But I sure liked my old 4WD buggy.

    Oh, decisions, decisions.

Seems to me your taking the correct approach. If you've always ran 4x4, then you may want to stay with it, (again I'm partial to 2wd). The Associated SC 4x4 Factory Team may be the model for you. It as addressed the belt issues with a chassis brace, so I've read. My only problem with it is model specific batteries, it uses a saddle-pack configuration for ideal weight distribution. I've got too much money tied up batteries to just start all over. But for you, it's almost a no brainer. Slip over to RC Tech.com and read/research till your hearts content. If I can help in any way let me know.

    For tenbeers:

I bought the 2wd SC10 and the more I think about I wish I had got the truggy. The SC is super fun but I'm not a fan of the huge body. It tends to collect debris pretty heavily, and makes the truck more top heavy. I love the way it looks, though!

    Thanks

Its made out of auminum channel for the frame, some slash wheels, wood paneling for the deck, and some 16ga angle for the sides/fenders. Its all welded and expoxied together.

its a locker, no differential action whatsoever, its only good if you run strictly on dirt or have low traction. Its good if you wanna drift and such around corners

    oooooh a locker....

that would be fun in the dirt...

you could always JB weld the tranny diff right? we do that with the Traxxas diffs for the RC rock crawlers...

might be cheaper than $15 for the fancy one, although, it would be nice to just slap one in that is already locked...

Kinda what I thought, but wasn't up on these. I can't see where that would help on a track, seems if you didn't exercise precise throttle control you ass-end would be passing your front end.
