Powder Coated rear Bumper??

So Im new kinda new here Anyway I have been looking into getting a color-matched grille and rear bumper. After painting the front grille successfully... I wanted to do the same to the Rear chrome bumper. After some research looks like painting chrome is expensive and a pain in the ass. I then thought about doing it with bed liner, which is still kinda expensive and not what I want. It then came to me... Powdercoating! Well I called some places and to do it white it will cost $100 and take about a day. Thats all the prep work and coating done by that shop.
So what do you guys think?? Has anyone done this? Has it worked out? Is there any other CHEAP method I have not thought of?

I just got done painting my rear crome last night. I used Dupli-Color bed liner. Its about 8 bucks a can. The bed liner is paintable too. Three coats did it well. Before you start sand it, then clean it with some Acetone. Turns out great. In total...about 20 bucks for everything.

 

I've done mine with the bedliner-in-a-can, but I'd love to see how yours turns out being powdercoated white. I'm happy with my black bumper for now, but long term I'd like it to be white to match my truck. Do it and post pictures!!!

What did you guys use to take out the chrome? I just finished my chrome grille and it was a pain in the ass sitting there sanding the whole thing and barely any chrome came out....

 

I didnt take it off. I just scored it really good with a wire wheel on my drill and then hit it with some acetone. After I did three coats of the spray on, I took some 180 grit sand paper and smoothed it down. Then I put one last coat on.

 

Personally....I wouldn't bother with the chrome. If it ain't prepped right, it'll probably flake off and look like ass in a matter of years.

Look into buying an aftermarket rear bumper. Expensive, yes...but damn cool!! You could recoop some of the money by selling your chrome bumper.

 

Wow those pics really helped. I like the liner but I really want it white. So I think Im gonna take off the bumper and get it powder-coated white. I mean its only for a little while until I get my badass off road bumpers!

Wow, a $100 for powdercoat? I got a quote for about $200 to do my rear bumper, and I thought, heck, I'll paint it myself first and if it looks bad, then I'll probably get it professionally done. If you are interested in the bed liner method, they do have it in white... just a thought.

I took the bumper completely off the truck and sanded down with my electric palm sander with 60 grit. We'll see how well it holds up.

 

So I got the bumper back today and it looks sweet I put it on about 20 min ago..... OMG perfect and all for $100 and like 26hrs fu*king steal!!!! Anyway Ill try and post some pics so u can see what Im talking about.

powder coat..hmm i never thought about that. My chrome is comming off mine, so I was thinking about re-chroming

I talked to the parts guy at the dealership who is a hot rodder. He told me the best way to do it yourself was to rough up the chrome bumper then get some self etching primer. Do a couple coats and then you can paint it whatever color you want. I bought all the stuff for under $20.

 

That's some sweet work, I was thinking black but it's white! I'm just looking at doing black... Those pics came out nice too, great job, you gotta feel badass now!

I know its an old thread revival, what color did you ask them to use for the powder? That match looks pretty spot on.
