the 02 tacomas use a dex/merc transmission fluid.......not the t4 toyota fluid. so im pretty sure you'd be safe using the valvoline maxlife oil. its a good oil anyway.

That doesnt suprise me. You will be fine using maxlife in both of your vehicles. I use it in my 03 which specs T-IV. From the Valvoline website....

Recommended for use where the following fluids are specified:
    Ford MERCON®, MERCON® V, MERCON® SP and LV
GM DEXRON, DEXRON II, III and VI
Toyota and Lexus Type T, T-III, T-IV and WS
    Allison TES 389
    Nissan Matic-D, Matic-J and Matic-K
Honda and Acura ATF Z-1 (except CVT)
    Mercedes NAG-1
    Mitsubishi Diamond SP-II and SP-III
    Kia SP-II and SP-III

anyproblem with mixing .... 2 quarts of toyota-IV with another brand? I only bought 3 quarts of T-IV and realize I am low after a drain and fill. To get more toyota ATF I will have to drive 20 miles. I can get to autozone in less than a mile.

you can mix it without any problems. the valvoline multi foreign vehicle fluid they have at autozone is compatible.

    Check out my build
I run the valvoline max life in my '04 and its mixed with whatever was in there before I bought the truck. Mixed since you cant really drain all of your atf. No issues after 20ish thousand miles.
