I drive a Colorado every day for work. Stay away from these piles! At the end of my shift I breathe a sigh of relief when I shut off the Colorado and sit down in my Tacoma. Gutless wonders (unless you get the V8). Horrible shifting transmission with almost no engine braking capabilities. Steering response, throttle response, and break pedal feel are all completely numb. The interior is super cheap, similar to one of those red and yellow "Playskool" push around cars, except it's black. GM claims that the crew cab Colorado has more space than the double cab Tacoma, but I sure don't see it. Maybe if the Colorado was never taken off-road, it might last a while. However, my work truck sees daily 4X4 patrol and I can guarantee this truck will not make it to 100,000 miles.

    Issues I've had:
    Seat adjuster lever snapped off
Grille mounting tabs snapped off, requiring a complete replacement
Both driver and passenger side turn signal housings randomly pop out while driving and start swinging around by the wires (this happens even on a smooth highway)
    Leaf springs snapped in half
Driver side front upper a-arm cracked and splitting around the ball joint
    Random electrical failures
Poorly designed rear suspension: front of the leaf spring mounts hangs lower than any part of the truck and is constantly being dented by rocks
Power steering pump leak started at 45,000 miles

I work for a GM dealership and drive a Tacoma. Should that tell you something. The Colorado/Canyon and hummer H3 with the i5 3.7/3.5 had issues with cylinder heads. HORRIBLE problems. A year ago, I spent 3 months doing NOTHING but cylinder heads! I have done over 56 heads myself in the corse of 3 years. The seats get beaten and that is it. Also, there design with their hub bearing system makes turning a rotor or replacing a rotor impossible without a procut tool. The 4x4 actuators come in ALL the time to get replaced. DO NOT buy one! Yes, there is a v8 option. But, the ECM has it so limited it is a dog! Have anymore questions PM me

Kinda harsh - guy made a mistake, don't be a hater.

About the topic - Coloraodo is left over parts from the Silverado's. Everyone that I know that has one really is disappointed. Usually there is a reason you can buy something cheap.

    Colorado -

you can get a Detroit locker as an option on the base models.

They have that cool angle-folding tail gate to make it easier to carry 4x8 sheets in the bed

A little narrower than the Tacoma for off-road, but they give this advantage right back with the HORRIBLE turning radius.

    Yeah, I bought the Tacoma.

I talked to someone who drives one for work. He HATES it. He said the interior is extremely cheaply built.

Years ago I was looking to trade off my Hemi Ram when gas first got up to $4 gallon. I was spending $100 a week in gas. :( I liked the idea of the Colorado because it was still a bit smaller and still had the 4 door and with a 5 cylinder I thought it would still get good mpgs and have a bit more pep than the Toyota/Nissans 4 bangers and cost less. Everyone and their brother told me to stay away from them since they were crap. I read several reviews online saying the same. I sure am glad I didn't trade. Now I have what I really wanted. :)

A co-worker of mine has a Silverado he bought new about 4-5 years ago. He didn't drive it much and let it sit in the garage for a couple years just driving it occasionally. Now he's having problems with it burning/using oil. He's not sure where its going. But it still has low miles and he's pissed. I've heard they have problems with the big trucks on this too. Not just him.

The oil consumption only apples to the v8 with the Displacement on demand engines. If you dont drive them hard, fill up with 90+ octane, and stop and go ALL the time, the pistons develop carbon and stick the oil rings together. That is easy to avoid.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Safety ratings, quality, customer satisfaction, the list could go on and on. Look at Edmuns or the Kelly Blue Book on them, they are not that good. What really disappoints me about them is safety, 2 star side impact with a 3 star frontal? Awful, with today's technology, there should be no excuse for anything to score under 4 stars in collision tests. I have also read about how crappy the interior is, and how the 5 cylinder option is a joke, the V8 is too much, just stick with your Tacoma!

Also, I think after 2012 or 2013 GM is dropping the axe on them...

I looked at the Colorado before I bought my 07 Tacoma and a few things that I noticed.

1ST: The Colorado rode like a tank on quicksand. Very jittery, loose steering, no brake feel and numb steering.

2ND: The Colorado had no power whatsoever.

3RD: Price was a big deal. My 07 was a TRD Sport 4X4 and the Colorado was about a grand more even though it was a pretty basic truck. No Z71 package. If I remember, it was a basic LS 4WD.

There were a lot more but these are the big ones that stuck out in my mind.

Nope, completely redesigning them. Looks like an equinox with a bed. Also, will be available with a 2.8 ltr diesel. Looking forward to it actually.
