I'm just wondering if the headlights will remain on if I accidently forget to turn them off and turn off the engine and leave the car? I read that they automatically shut off once the door is closed? I have a 2010 double cab if that makes a differnce? thanks!

Yep X2. Turn off truck, as soon as you open the drivers side door, they go off. Come back on when you start the truck if you leave the switch to on. Does not hurt anything if you want to just leave the switch to on.

When you turn off teh truck, and open the door, they should turn off. At least on mine they do.

He wants to know if you walk away from the car with them on, will they shut off automatically? I think so. Try it!

So, meaning if the engine is off and then you turn the lights on? Didn't know that. But then again I wouldn't turn them on with engine off and then just walk away. Not sure what the reason for that would be.

    Just bought it!

I think he means if they're running when the car is turned off, at least that's how he has it worded. I always leave mine on as well. I've been confused ever since I saw someone do a write up for daytime running lights on their truck. It's basically the easiest mod you can do to your truck, just twist the knob two turns and you're done. No need for a write up.

    I always leave mine on.
My general routine is stop, turn off engine, take key, open door. The lights go off when I open the door.

Couple weeks ago, I stopped in the dark to get a bite to eat. I had to pee really bad, so I wasn't thinking straight and when I stopped, I turned the lights off after I took the keys, but before I opened the door. Then I was like, why turn them off? They turn themselves off, so I turned them back on. Then when I got out, they stayed on. They were still on 15+ minutes later (long enough for me to pee, order fast food, and eat it).

    So, order of operations counts.

I really don't feel like sitting outside staring at my headlights for 5 mins. I read in the manual, it says "don't leave your headlights on for an extended amount of time without the truck running". Which basically indicates to me, there's no timed cut-off. Maybe an accessory cut off when the battery drops below a certain voltage, I know some vehicles have this. It allows just enough juice in there to let the engine start.

LOL, Well the day time running lights are different, the lights where the turn signals are stay on with the trucks that have the DTRL.
    Hmmmmm.

Found this out the hard way.

    Engine running, lights on:
-Turn off truck, remove keys and soon as you open the door, lights go off.
-Return to truck, open door, start the engine, lights come on.

    Engine running, lights on:
-Turn off truck and leave to accessory to listen to radio for a few.
    -Turn off headlights manually
---Ready to leave truck, remove keys, turn on lights.
    ---Open door and walk away.
---Return 3 hours later and lights are still on!

Basically, RTFM. The manual explains it nicely. :D

So if the engine is off and you either turn on the lights manually, or turn them off/on, they will remain on when you leave.

Therefore, I ALWAYS leave mine on and don't shut off. If I'm sitting in the truck to listen to the radio, I turn the lights off and leave em that way until I'm ready to start the truck again.

I reached from the passenger side and turned my truck off once, lights ran all day because the drivers door was never triggered.

Drivers door is the only switch and it only works with key off. Don't be like me, start your truck from the passengers side, shut it off, then forget about it. I ran my battery dead because my lights were on. I was like, WTF, I don't believe you haha.

I wonder if you can DRAIN the battery to nothing, by leaving the lights on?
