When I bought the truck I knew nothing about them what so ever, (only owned it a month) the only "TRD" anything I can find on the truck was the TRD off road decal that was on the back thats it. Which does not tell me anything, I think personally the guy that had put the decal on. The back badges said V6 SR5 (which what I think the truck is) and not a "True TRD"
The truck is at home and im at work but I think it had 3 maybe 4 leaf's if I remember right. So if it's only a V6 SR5 4x4 then these shocks that I am getting would be a upgrade sounds like?

i just read through all this, and i'll hop in. if your truck IS a TRD from 2007 it will either be a Sport Model or an Offroad Model. The quick way to tell the difference - does your truck have a hood scoop and color matched grill and bumper? if not, does it have a little button to the left of the steering wheel that says "diff lock"? if its the first its a sport, if its the second it's an offroad.

both^^^ of those will have the yellow shocks that are better than just the black ones. but if you just have a trd sticker on your truck, the shocks will be black, and yes, the trd ones will be better. . but not awesomely better.

and as i always like to do when giving suspension advise - someone with far more suspension knowledge than me feel free to call me out on any of that

all 05-09/10 have the SR5 badge, even if a TRD. the easiest ways to see if a TRD would be the locker button on the dash, the sport material seats, and the outlet in the bed. none of those = no TRD. the TRD shocks would be a step up from the black base stocks.

Looks like mine is not a TRD :( no diff lock, no outlet in the bed, no hood scoop or color matched grill. BAH! Looks like he just wanted the TRD logo on the back. Answered my questions fella's now looks like I just gotta find me a good set of AAL to go with my "TRD shocks" lol

hope it wasnt sold to you under the false details of it actually being a TRD. it does make a difference in retail and resale pricing.

No it wasn't and come to think of I found it in a classifieds add in the paper, and all it said was 07 4x4 4 door Tacoma. When I saw the TRD on the back I thought well that's a plus! Did not even look at all the extra's that should have been there being a true TRD. It was a one owner a old guy in his 60's i'd say. The truck is in great condition and rides and runs great I can't complain really I only paid 16k for it with 101k miles.

What really sucks it kills my whole Username now lol "REDTRD"

yeah oh well. atleast you have a truck you are happy with. . . and it's not like now there is honestly a lot less you can with it. i know "tacoman15" has the same truck as you and IIRC he put about $800 into AAL, shocks and coils. added some 285's and was able to keep up with everybody pretty damn good on those trails at uwharrie. i mean, his non trd can do a hell of a lot more than my trd. thats the cool thing about these truck, lots of options.

lol...if you plan on modding it to suit your needs, a non-TRD is better off and cheaper. not to mention you dont have to worry about exploding your rear diff w/ the locker...lol.

^ this. A kid I went to high school with got what he thought was a TRD OR Tacoma. Turns out it didn't even have 4x4 just the stickers lol.

I also have the SR5 and I am very happy with it. I didn't know this at the time but if you do plan on locking it front and rear then it will be cheaper in the long run like jhodge83 said.

Just out of curiosity why Icon? I have the Toytec AAL and I believe it was $70 for the pair?

Although I do like how that is a 3 leaf pack.

Shoot if I can get away with with a good 70.00 pair I would like it just as much as the ICON set. That was just a quick google search took me to those, and I thought I remember hearing good stuff about ICON. You got a link to that toyotec set?

Do you know if you have the TSB in the rear? Like instead of having 3 leafs + the overload leaf do you have 4 leafs + the over load leaf?

It won't affect price but the AAL's are different for that reason.

EDIT: Here is the link. The one on the left is the one I have and no problems with it. Just make sure you grease them really good before you install them otherwise they will squeak like there is no tomorrow (ask me how I know )

I was wrong about the TSB. See above post. Hmm I am not 100% sure but I did not use new u-bolts with mine and I have no problems. But if you have the TSB then you might.
