3" Lift and New Tires need suggestions

Hey all.
I am new to the Forum so ill put that up front also new to being a Tacoma owner but loving it.

Now to my questions.
1. I want to do a 3" suspension Lift (going to have it professionally installed however) any ideas on what lift to use. Tuff country was recommended to me already ideas on this specific one?
2. I want to do a beefy looking tire but good for road driving thats mostly what i do? Previously i have had toyos and really like those. Opinions?
3. Tire size i was looking at either 32's or 33's? Again I would love some insight.

Great thanks for the info on the lifts what about the tire sizes.
I wont really be doing much off roading it more of a commuter vehical, if i did it would be light.
I am most likely going to les schwab because i dont have the means or the time to do the work right now i was told installed the 3" suspension lift would be about $575

 

You won't find too many people here recommending a spacer lift .

 

with stock coils, bilstein 5100s will raise the front of the truck up to 2.5 inches
and an add-a leaf will raise the rear up to 2 inches, and 5100s ride better than stock.

the largest tires you can run without rubbing is 265/75r16, or 265/70r17

 

I am also in the same boat, new to the forum. I have done a lot of reading on other threads, I see a lot of different opinions which bring a lot of confusion... Have a 2011 trd tacoma and would like a 2-3 lift with bigger tires. Not trying to break the bank and realize you get what you pay for. Suggestions for a happy medium on lifting and tires without rubbing?

 

save your money and buy the toytec ultimate lift its a great lift for a great price.

 

Basically anything above 265/75r16 will rub offroad

 

Best all around bang for your buck will be the OME lift kit with an AAL

 

thinking about the same for my 2011, 2-3 inches, mostly to hold a ARB bumper and to look a little more aggressive. I am thinking ome, 886.

 

I know most people are against space lifts but if you are not going to be off-roading and just want a little lift for bigger tires I would go with the ZONE off road spacer lift for $99 and run 285/70/17.

 

This is the point I am at on my build as well. After reading hours here and elsewhere on line, Here is what I have come to.

Tuff counrty is like the Coleman gear of camping equipment, you can make it work but I woulnt want to buy something twice, nor trust it way back in the woods! REAL cheap but not what you want unless you want it to "look cool" ridin high!! Not very tuff as the name implys.

Toytec ULK is good but it is a bilstein either way you look at it. They are adjustable, but how often with your bigger wheels are you going to be able to crawl under your truck and adjust them or would you, which also changes your alignment when you do it. A coilover is a coilover just Toytec has adjustable ones. The price seems cheap but only comes with an AAL for the rear and a shock not a full leaf pack. So you just put all of the pressure on one new leaf??? If you want it to go up just put the whole pack on, cause if you dont you will have a saggy rear soon. No one like your rear saggy....

OME all around with the Nirto shocks, Dakar rears leaf pack with an AAL with the Nitro shock, 2" rear shackle. This setup can be purchased pre assembled for an extra 100 bucks. I have found it online for the kit sans AAL for 998. and you dont need the AAL unless you haul or tow stuff like gear, or tools, or firewood. Dont need the rear shackles unless you haul, it will raise the rear a tad.

With this kit you get a 2.5-3" lift.

Spacers do give you a bump , but basically preload your springs as well- dont do it. You can use a 10mm trim spacer to help with the leveling from a 2" shackle, but dont stuff a huge spacer up there

Tacomas are not suggested to ever go over a 3" with out many other mods.

With the OME you can replace the UCA but it is said not nessacery for proper alignment. This can be done later if needed. As well as the diff drop. Many on here have said you have to do it, and many have said they push their lifts to the limit with no problems on an offroad and didnt drop the diff.

All in all for the money, ease of install, quality- OME seems to be the bees knees. Just one mans opinion based from many mens opinions.

Tires- personally best for the money and commute, which I dont have and do all the time, best bet is a BFG AT, 31" for stock and up to 33" with a 3" lift. No spacers or offset needed as long as you dont go wider. Keep a 10.5" on stock wheels, go to the 33" with the OME lift, and you will be good. BFG AT dont look bad either, they got a little meat and look nice. Also the 10.5" will keep the gas in the tank longer than the 12.5" people are stuffin in their fenders!!! And you wont have to listen to the harmonic vibration from an MT back and forth to work, while still having the ability to go offroad with the AT.

My setup soon to come to my build it as follows:
OME 3" lift w/ Dakar spings and AAL, and front coilovers.
33" BFG AT on stock bedlined wheels.

With this setup you basically get a four in gain in clearence- 3' from lift and 1" from bigger rubbers. Thats what I have come to. Thats all I got.

As a newbie I'll take constructive criticism. I would like your feed back on my options, one of the reasons I signed up here. I have looked into getting the add a leaf/ U bolt kit/front and rear 5100's. What else would I need to level out my truck and add a few inches of lift for slightly bigger tires... 265/75/16

Looking at the Bilstein Adjustable lift kit with 5100 shocks on Toytec.
Will I need the add diff drop 4x4 and what do you guys suggest for the rear lift options, 1.5 lift rear blocks with U bolts OR 1.5 TSB add a leaf?

 

Why adjustable? Cause you cant pick a height? Just plan on running thru tires due to poor alignment from changing your adjustable shocks

Thanks for posting this one, I've been toying with the idea of a small 2-3" lift since I bought my truck. I don't do much off roading, but some of the roads I drive for work almost qualify, and sometimes I like to go have some fun.

Might make my running boards useful to someone other than a lawn gnome, too

 

I am aware that changing the the height would cause camber or toe wear without an alignment and I don't plan on changing the height once everything is installed and I get my truck aligned. Like I said I am new to tacoma's and am just trying to look over and see what options work best for me and hopefully getting feed back from people who know the field better than I do.

 

So what do you guys think is a good price for a Tuff Country or Truxx 3" Lift kit installed (for those of us that aren't mechanically savvy)?

Also will you notice a big difference BETWEEN the stock 265/70/16 versus the 265/75/16?

I'm new to this stuff and any advice would be really helpful. I don't plan on off-roading hardly at all, I'm just looking for aesthetics--bigger beefier truck.
