I've got 7 acres. Just gonna kill 2 birds with one stone and level some stuff out and use that dirt.

Finally got a hold of a tiller to use. Took a little less than an hour and a half. (Keep in mind I took several breaks 5-10 minutes)

Shortly after that I made several laps around it with a riding mower and packed everything down real nice. It worked surprisingly well. All I have left to do now is make a few jumps and berms, along with smoothing out the spaces between. Me and a couple buddies should be able to that pretty quickly with some shovels. After that i just need to lay down some black drain pipe to mark the edges of the track.

    Then I'll be done!

I was really surprised that I got the ground turned over so quickly. I figured it would take at least a couple of days. I've definitely spent more time laying everything out and deciding how I wanted the track than I have actually working on it. Gonna get reaaall familiar with shovels and what not the rest of the week though.

I'm not too worried about it short term. (supposed to snow tomorrow night, but it's been almost 60 all week.)

Dad runs a spray coupe for a living, so I can get plenty of weed killer etc. from him. Right now it all has a lot of roots in it, but I think that's gonna work itself out eventually.

We need to get hooked up with you then... That full strength "Round Up generic" stuff from the Co-op is pricey. All you'll go through way mare than you think.

^^ Yea, having that resource is pretty handy.

I plan on posting pics of my progress today later on tonight. Put some finishing touches on the 1st turn and straightaway.

This is what I got done yesterday. Tilled a whole corner and straight stretch, then raked all of that. I don't know that all of the raking will be necessary.. I hope not. It's a helluva lotta work.

This is a close up of the texture of the track after it was raked then packed down with a riding mower. Still very loose.

You'll need a few good rains for everything to settle, especially your jumps and such. What will smooth it out better than anything, is spinning little rubber tires attached to overpriced little trucks. At first, you'll prolly do better with some type of spike tires, as everything settles and packs down, you'll likely need a totally different type tread.

Yea, time and regular use is the only thing that will really let it settle. My gramps has a big roller that can be pulled behind a lawn mower, thinking about borrowing that. I could sort of back it up on the jumps to pack them down. Just a thought.

Those are nice unless your soil is sticky/damp then you'll pull big chunks up. We used one, and a chain link fence section with a cross tie to knock down the high spots. But, yeah, time and running on it will help.
