    Dont you think that may have had an impact on the gain? Lower temp, less humidity? I mean.....An all stock engine could show the same gain/loss given change in temps, and humidity.

    Yes, I agree. But! It is fairly cold here right now in Houston. I wager anybody to meet up with me that has a Non S/C 1GR. I will bring my spacer, and that person can meet me at PowerFab. I will install it, and pay for the before and after dyno runs. Can't get better than that, as well, the weather does what it wants.

    Disclaimer, whoever it is, unless they already have one, does in NO WAY get to keep mine.

    I am not sure if you are referring to the dyno chart I posted or not? If so, I agree. I wish they would have started lower in the RPM range, and have no idea why they started so high. :confused:

    That dyno was done at another Houston shop called CarBoy.

    If 1GRracer is up to it, and I am sure he will be, we can get another one done at PowerFab, and have it start lower. Possibly. Might be a bit of an issue since he is automatic. I am not sure?

    The would have if the cared. They have left out so many common place things, which are in this day and age not upgrades. I.E. Rear disk brakes....

    The Tacoma is the red headed step child that get the scraps and hand me downs. Very easy to see that they would overlook something so simple.

    Now lets explain abit.
    Horsepower that is created in an internal combustion engine is directly proportional to how many pounds of air is moved into and out of it during a given amount of time. There are four basic ways to increase airflow, for this I'll use a n/a 1GR as the example.
    1.displacement
    2.engine speed
    3.volumetric efficiency
    4.air density increases
    Lets focus on number 3 and number 4. namely the restrictions in the intake. We have two choke holds, the black plastic intake manifold and the metal lower one. The black plastic manifold has as Torspd said has a butterfly valve that adjusts airflow by the amount of load on the engine. In this respect TB spacers are useless. Now examine the lower metal intake manifold. It is a two piece design that is cheap to make but not so well in how it performs. Now what does that do with the VE and air density and the mod in question? Simple added air volume after the plastic intake manifold at any rpm range.

    That doesnt increase the amount of CFM the engine can pump. Nor does it make air more dense.....

    That's because runner length is a perpetual compromise. Air has inertia. Longer runners take more time to fill the cylinders. Longer runners are therefore good for low end. Shorter runners are good for high end. As expected, the NST spacer loses about 5 hp and 5 lb-ft compared to stock above 5400 rpm. The new spacer will probably do the same.

    There have been various implementations of variable-length intake runners in production cars. Look up BMW DIVA, Mazda VRIS, Yamaha YCC-I...

    Not quite the same. Toyota openly admitted that drum brakes are "considerably less expensive": http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/pickup/163_0412_2005_toyota_tacoma/index.html Making intake runners 1/2" longer won't increase the cost of the part for all intents and purposes. Toyota likely picked the "optimal" runner length based on simulations and controlled lab dyno runs.

    But, it does increase the volume. And it does increase runner length as he stated, across the entire rpm range. Regardless of the butterfly.

    Thus more torque.

    Yup. Free for you. Who knows. Wouldn't it be crazy if nothing happened, or it even lost hp and tq?! I am not taking any sides. We will just let the dyno runs do show the change.

    We will also make sure that the graph is in SAE as well.

    I'm with you, I think. The analogy is interesting though.

    "Non adebetic" must be non adiabatic, which has nothing to do with "normally aspirated" or flow rates for that matter. CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) can be changed in many ways. Flow restriction and pressure are 2 of many.
