    Little background just so I don't look like a total idiot. I work in lumber, have my whole life grew up around it etc. My dad refused to let us change our own oil growing up .. even refused to teach me. I don't really know why, I just got a "It's bleeping easier to pay someone else, and no mess"

    Anyway.

    I attempted to change my oil today in my truck. First time, ever. I was excited. Trying to learn some basic things about my truck. My automotive knowledge overall is actually pretty good. I've rebuilt a holley carb a cpl times, replaced water pumps, alternators etc. But never changed the oil.

    Today I changed the oil.

    And the ATF.

    FUCK.

    In my haste I crawled under the truck, found the nut that my 14MM socket fit on and it looked to be in an obvious place for oil. As soon as I cracked it ... red .. WTF. DOUBLE FUCK.

    Anywho, thanks to the awesome write up on TW about the 2nd gen transmission and the guy in the service department at my local dealership I was walked through how to add EXACTLY how much world fluid I took out. Only had to buy the fluid, the pump for the bottles, and a 24MM socket. I only had a 20MM.

    I also finished the oil change.

    Without the write-ups on TW I would have been lost and looking at a tow to the dealership.

    Edit: BTW I'm just screwing with you I ALMOST did the same thing yesterday sometimes it's easy to get the drain plugs mixed up especially if you haven't done it before or a lot. I had the bolt broken lose then realised I was to far away from the skid to be the motor oil plug and realized what I was doing.

    Cool. My dad was a carpenter for quite a while and now generals up in Alaska during the late spring/summer. He does most of the work for Ocean Beauty Seafood up there.

    I grew up working with/for him and now have been at a local lumber yard"s" for almost 15 years. We have 12 locations around Seattle. I'm the training coordinator for the company now.
