I get 24MPG cruising around Yellowstone with the cruise control set at 45MPH with an empty bed. :)

I also get 22-23MPG heading west-to-east across Wyoming on I-80, but about 18MPG going east-to-west.

Normally around town I probably do 19-20 in mixed driving (closer to 19).

Since changing my tires to 245/75/16 (I think), I've been getting around 19mpg per tank - average around 350 miles before fill up (so about 18-18.5 gallons). I was doing about 17mpg on BFT AT's.

I noticed in the winter I got WORSE gas mileage. I called Toyota they told me it was "winter" Grade gas. And that in the summer it should return to normal. It did.

    In Winter I get 19.5mpg
    In summer about 22mpg

If I run 100% gas - NO Ethanol I acan add 1.5-2 mpg. But it's more expensive and about 20 miles away to get it. NOT worth it.

    I have a Tacoma Access-Cab 4x4 V6 with a 200lb. tool box in the bed.

I for one can't wait for that summer gas to come back.

Although, I have gotten pretty good at keeping it up to a reasonable number even on the winter swill. Last week I ran about 30 miles in deep snowfall in 4WD and still was able to fill that tank up at 357mi/17.5gal.

These 20 degree mornings really suck though.

People still say 20mpg can't be done :p

The real trick? The 4.0 responds negatively to many hypermiling techniques in ways that stick for 100+ miles. It's more about knowing what NOT to do to tick it off.

it's been said before, but keeping them under 2000rpm is a biggie, i think. it takes a little attention and i still keep forgetting to do it sometimes... but those off the line get up and go's really kill the milage over a whole tank of gas. think of the number of starts/stops one does just driving around town. and if you just try to keep it under 2000rpm, seriously, a 15 minute trip might be extended to what, 16 minutes?

06 DCSB Prerunner before lift and tires I was 19 to 21 mpg as long as I didn't floor it with 265/70/R17. After lift and with bigger tires it's been 17 to 18 mpg. When I regear I'm hoping it will go back up a little

I had changed my Fuelly stats into MPG and I didn't realize how bad my mileage really is(AVG. 16.2, Best was 20.7(HWY)). I know that it all comes down to how I drive. I've been slowly driving like there is an egg under my foot, it's slowly working. I too, like others am waiting for the winter gas to leave . That's all the kind of gas I've had in my truck. I've never had summer gas so I hope that MPG's go up once the spring, summer roll around. Oh, and rolling on up would be the gas prices.

2012 dc 6 speed 4x4. 245x7516 tires. 2000 miles. Last fill up showed 20.25 mpg with 75 mph freeway driving about 90% of the tank with a couple of threw town miles and a couple of stop and go traffic accidents. This was on 87 octane winter gas at 5000 feet.

That is hard to do around here. Hell if you ain't balls to the wall off at the light then someone is on your ass, under your rear bumper or even in the turning lane beside you before it even starts. It's funny, today leaving work I watched as every car in front of me seemed to take off up the road at full throttle. Everyone is in such a damn hurry.

I'm not sure why but over the last couple tanks I've gone from 18ish MPG (for the last year) to about 19 MPG, mostly highway, 65-75MPH on 87 octane, ethanol-free when I can get it.

LOL the only thing I've changed is the addition of a bug deflector and side window wind deflectors. Certainly that's not it. And it's still a bit early in ND for warm weather blend gasoline. *Shrug* Maybe my Tacoma just loves me. :D

I've been testing this theory of the egg under the foot, and while it makes perfect sense once you're up to speed (keeping it nice and steady), in my initial testing, it seems I save more fuel in the long run by getting up to speed quicker as opposed to doing it slowly.

I'm not talking about flooring it. But if I get 6mpg applying a little more throttle, and get up to speed in 200 yards, that's better than if I'm getting 10mpg taking is slow, and it takes me 400 yards to level off.

So these days, I apply a little more gas and work to get to the leveling off point quicker, and stay there longer with an even foot. Because that's where MPGs can really be increased. And doing this, I got 20.7 mpg just a couple tanks ago (whereas I'm usually around 18). Others should try it & let us know what you get.

Just hit 20mpg after using 91 E0 for the past couple months. Put in the Lucas oil fuel system cleaner so that helped too. Got 14mpg on 87 before. Actually saving money using premium with the amount I drive.

This is true, I've noticed trying to take off easy on hills in particular just keeps the rpms higher for longer.

But my big thing is trying to keep my distance and avoid unnecessary braking, coasting to red lights farther and such. Which sometimes allows me to just coast and by the time I get to the light it changes and I never have to brake or not much anyway. But again the problem is everybody wants to run over you for this.

You have explained the benefit of a [scan][ultra]gauge right there.

80% load is where you want to be. Set your acceleration rate by your shift point (on a manual tranny) and keep the load about there, unless you're talking 2500+ rpm. Think of it as the highest compression you can let the engine have without making it run richer than stoich.

When most people accelerate in egg-under-foot fashion, they have the rpm way too high for their throttle position. This wastes a lot of fuel and is in a lot of cases (like this big V6) much worse than just romping on it. Doing it right is a learned skill that can only be honed with a load or vacuum gauge.

Third tank in a row over 20 mpg today (20.7, could have been better but I was very very naughty on the throttle yesterday) which makes 8 the last 12 tanks over 20. It's still winter gas and icy in the mornings.
